Rosemary Laird

A Woman of Fortitude is my life story. It contains travel, marriage break up, recovery and personal reinvention, internet dating and a love story. But the main thread to the story is how positivity and decisiveness can be used to solve, or at least cope with, life’s problems. Rosemary Laird

Rosemary Laird’s life is a vibrant testament to reinvention, resilience, and embracing the unexpected. Trained as a teacher, she boldly transformed herself into a professional photographer after her first marriage ended, and now, as an acclaimed author, she has published her second book, A Woman of Fortitude. With a life that spans continents, careers, and personal triumphs, Rosemary embodies the adage that “variety is the spice of life.” Today, she feels fortunate to share her journey with her second husband, living with a zest for adventure and an unshakable optimism.

Born one of five sisters, Rosemary was a sensitive yet exuberant child, brimming with creativity and ideas. Her father nicknamed her “Sunshine and Showers” for her dynamic spirit. As a young girl, she memorized long poems during elocution classes, eagerly reciting them to anyone who would listen. Though not a standout student, she surprised her school by winning a national essay competition with a evocative piece about treasures left by the tide, earning a prize presented by the Duke of Edinburgh—a moment that foreshadowed her lifelong knack for storytelling.

Rosemary’s writing draws inspiration directly from her rich and varied experiences. She began with letters to magazines, delighting in seeing her words in print and pocketing the occasional £5 payment. While living in Holland, she penned humorous reflections on expatriate life for the British Women’s Club magazine. Back in England, she contributed technical articles to Practical Photography, blending her creative and professional passions. It wasn’t until the Covid-19 pandemic in March 2020 that Rosemary turned to longer-form writing. Moved by the historic moment, she chronicled the pandemic’s weekly progression in rhyming couplets, culminating in her first book, Covid Chronicles in Rhyme, published in April 2022.

The spark for A Woman of Fortitude ignited during a February 2024 holiday in the Maldives, when rough seas kept Rosemary from swimming among her beloved iridescent fish and delicate corals. Seizing the moment, she began writing her memoir, a captivating narrative that readers describe as reading more like fiction than fact. With humor, heart, and unflinching honesty, Rosemary’s story resonates with men and women alike, offering inspiration to those navigating their own paths of reinvention.

Already, Rosemary is gathering notes for her next book, Bring Fun, Joy, and Kindness to Life, a reflection of her enduring belief in the power of positivity. Her remarkable journey—marked by global adventures, personal reinvention, and a commitment to living fully—continues to inspire and uplift readers worldwide.
