Alexander Burton Donates New LGBT+ Hardcover Novels to Local Libraries for Pride

On The Table Read Magazine, “the best arts and entertainment magazine UK“, Alexander Burton has celebrated Pride by donating 30 hardcover copies of his newly published LGBT+ novels to the public libraries of Taunton and Bridgwater.

In a powerful celebration of Pride, international novelist and composer Alexander Burton has donated 30 hardcover copies of his recent LGBT+ fiction to public libraries in his home county of Somerset. Both Bridgwater Library and Taunton Library received the donations, which feature a diverse collection of stories exploring identity, belonging, and the British working-class experience.

From Somerset to the Global Stage

Born in Bridgwater, Burton’s roots heavily influence his creative output. Before establishing a career that took him to London, Japan, and eventually Toronto, Canada—where he currently resides with his partner—he grew up in the working-class communities of Somerset and Cornwall. His writing looks closely at the complexities of migration, the search for a sense of home, and the unique challenges faced by the diaspora. For Burton, returning these stories to his hometown libraries represents a meaningful full-circle moment, especially as local community spaces reopen their doors to welcome readers back.

A Diverse Shelf of Queer Romance and Sci-Fi

The generous donation consists of 30 hardcovers spanning five distinct titles, all published this year under the independent imprint Tremolo A Tiempo Design House. Burton, who holds formal author registrations in Canada, Switzerland, and with the Society of Composers, Authors and Music Publishers of Canada, writes across multiple sub-genres of queer fiction. The donated titles include the contemporary romances Midsummer at Henley: Elite Coaching, Close Proximity, and Unexpected Love, Long Run, and In Sync, alongside the expat narrative Between London and Toronto: Intentionality in a Gay Expat’s Life, and a speculative fiction compilation titled Frightfully Futuristic Tales of AI, Horror, and the Unknown.

Redefining Epic Fantasy with Local Folklore

In tandem with his contemporary romance and sci-fi releases, Burton has also launched a major fantasy endeavor titled The Hollow Vale, which serves as Book One of his planned seven-part epic, The Tharion Cycle. Set against a crumbling empire where memory itself is fading, the novel draws immense inspiration from the fog-drenched fens, marshes, and ancient ruins of Somerset and Glastonbury. Rather than simple scenery, the South West landscape acts as a central character, steeped in local folklore and mythic atmosphere. The plot follows a hidden girl named Caelwyn, a disillusioned legionnaire, and a nameless child navigating a shifting, dangerous world.

What positions The Hollow Vale as a notable addition to the genre is its unapologetic centering of queer voices, chosen families, and themes of exile within traditional epic fantasy. By placing marginalized perspectives at the heart of the narrative, the book offers a subtle reclamation of classical folklore. As a self-published project, the debut highlights the power of independent authorship. Burton has expanded the reading experience by creating hand-drawn maps, extensive lore documents, and original musical compositions to accompany the text, earning high praise and perfect ratings from early reviewers.
