During her career, Alison worked for the South African president Cyril Ramaphosa when he was general secretary of the National Union of Mineworkers. A copy of her book, which includes a reference written by him, has been hand delivered to President Ramaphosa.

Belonging is a poignant and inspiring story of resilience, hope, and the power of human connection. It offers valuable insights into the challenges of growing up in a divided society and the importance of finding one’s place in the world.

Alison Weihe, a former anti-apartheid activist, shared poignant stories from her life at the launch of her memoir, Belonging: Finding Tribes of Meaning. She recalled defying societal norms by refusing to ride the whites-only bus during the 1970s uprisings and the deep shame she experienced after a professional mistake.

After a successful career as a trade union activist and journalist, Weihe transitioned into entrepreneurship and later became a sought-after speaker and coach, empowering others to embrace their authentic selves.

Now 65 and living in Johannesburg, Weihe continues to inspire audiences with her message of resilience, self-discovery, and the power of human connection.

Writing Belonging made sense of my whole life. From political activist to award-winning serial entrepreneur to now becoming a speaker and a writer, my life has come full circle to focusing on legacy work. 

I now hope to be a voice of hope and healing in this land at a seminal time in the history of South Africa. The book launch was an incredible event and a profound, emotional experience.
