On The Table Read Magazine, “the best arts and entertainment magazine UK“, Beatrix returns with her haunting new album We Swallowed The Sky, a deeply personal and beautifully off-kilter orchestral indie-folk masterpiece.
LA-based singer-songwriter Arielle Kasnetz, performing as Beatrix, has revealed details of her highly anticipated second album, We Swallowed The Sky. The record will arrive on April 24 through Nice Life Recording Company and marks a deeply personal evolution for the orchestral indie rock, folk, and chamber-pop project.

A Ghost From the Past Haunts the New Record
We Swallowed The Sky finds Kasnetz revisiting a formative past relationship and allowing its lingering presence to echo throughout the songs. The album’s emotional core revolves around this long-gone connection, with the ghost of the relationship embodied by the haunting sound of pedal steel guitar that drifts between past, present, and future.
The music blends hushed, intimate piano-led moments with bold, full-band explosions. Listeners can expect striking, off-kilter arrangements filled with unexpected melodic shifts and richly layered instrumentals. For Kasnetz, this project represents her most authentic expression to date—an album where she finally feels completely at home in her own voice.
New Single “Class Reunion” Arrives With Surreal Video
The album announcement comes alongside the release of the first single, “Class Reunion.” The track showcases Kasnetz’s sharp storytelling as it depicts two former partners unexpectedly crossing paths a decade after their breakup. The song captures the awkwardness, lingering emotions, and anxiety of the encounter in vivid detail.
The official music video for “Class Reunion” creates a dreamlike atmosphere reminiscent of Twin Peaks blended with the dry humor of The Office. Set in a sterile community center, it features Beatrix delivering a mesmerizing, direct-to-camera performance that draws viewers into the protagonist’s spiral of commonplace anxiety and quiet desperation.
From Classical Training to Personal Songwriting
Kasnetz’s path to this record began in classical music, where she spent years mastering vocal technique and piano repertoire. Though technically accomplished, the material never felt like her own. Everything changed during the pandemic when she picked up an acoustic guitar and began writing songs drawn from her real experiences.
After relocating from New York to Los Angeles—where she initially knew almost no one—Kasnetz quickly connected with a vibrant community of local musicians. This environment proved instrumental in shaping the sound of We Swallowed The Sky.

Expansive Production and Notable Collaborators
The album was co-produced by Philip Etherington and Ehren Ebbage. Core tracks were first developed as a trio before expanding to a stellar ensemble of musicians, including:
- Guitarists Harrison Whitford (Phoebe Bridgers) and Ryan Lerman (John Legend, Ben Folds, Vulfpeck)
- Bassist Sean Hurley (John Mayer, Arlo Guthrie)
- Drummer Rob Humphries (Kacey Musgraves)
- Pianist Zac Rae (Death Cab for Cutie, Fiona Apple)
- Pedal steel guitarist Greg Leisz (Bob Dylan, Joni Mitchell, Rufus Wainwright)
- Horns player CJ Camerieri (Paul Simon, Bon Iver, Sufjan Stevens)
- Woodwinds player Jesse Chandler (Midlake, Mercury Rev)
- String arranger Rob Moose (Sufjan Stevens, Taylor Swift, Jay-Z)
This collaborative approach results in a rich, yearning sound that pushes Beatrix’s music forward while staying true to its emotional honesty.
