On The Table Read Magazine, “the best arts and entertainment magazine UK“, discover how Brits are embracing unforgettable experiences—from pulsing raves to indulgent spa days—as a new study reveals the best ways to have fun in Britain and create lasting memories in 2026.
A recent study by ticketing platform SeatPick has shed light on how Brits prefer to spend their leisure time, analysing monthly Google search volumes for a variety of popular events and activities. The findings highlight a strong preference for high-energy, social, and experience-driven outings, with raves emerging as the clear favourite.
The research ranked activities based on average monthly searches, revealing shifting priorities toward memorable, shared experiences rather than material purchases. This aligns with broader trends where many Brits—especially younger adults—are opting to invest in live events, social gatherings, and self-care over physical goods.

Best Ways To Have Fun In Britain In 2026
Raves Reign Supreme as the Top Choice

Raves have been crowned the UK’s most popular way to have fun, attracting an impressive 598 monthly searches on average. This pulsating, all-night dance culture tops the list and dominates in 36 cities across the country, including major hubs like London, Birmingham, and Manchester.
The appeal of raves lies in their immersive, communal atmosphere—think thumping bass, laser lights, and crowds united by electronic music. Whether underground warehouse parties or large-scale events, raves offer escapism and connection in an increasingly digital world.
Cinemas Hold Strong in Second Place

Coming in a close second are cinema trips, with 459 monthly searches. This classic form of entertainment remains hugely popular, ranking as the top-searched event in 32 cities, such as Bristol, Leeds, and Cardiff.
Cinema outings provide an accessible, affordable escape—perfect for date nights, family trips, or solo relaxation. The enduring draw may stem from the big-screen experience, blockbuster releases, and the simple joy of shared storytelling in a darkened theatre.
Clubs and Nightlife Secure Third Spot

Clubbing or nights out at nightclubs claim third place with 245 monthly searches. While not as dominant nationally as raves or cinemas, clubs top the rankings in two cities: Luton and West Bromwich.
Clubs offer high-energy dancing, DJ sets, drinks, and socialising late into the night. They represent a staple of UK nightlife, especially for those seeking a structured yet vibrant party environment.
Concerts Bring the Live Music Energy

In fourth place, concerts garner 220 monthly searches and stand out as the preferred event in cities like Rotherham and Worthing.
From arena spectacles to intimate gigs, concerts deliver live performances by favourite artists, creating unforgettable moments through music, lights, and crowd energy.
Fancy Dress Parties Add Playful Fun

Fancy dress parties rank fifth with 155 monthly searches, proving most popular in Bournemouth.
These themed events encourage creativity, costumes, and laughter—ideal for birthdays, hen/stag dos, or seasonal celebrations like Halloween.
Live Music at Local Venues

Live music—including tribute acts, pub gigs, and smaller venue performances—takes sixth place with 151 monthly searches. Hove leads the way in searching for these grassroots events.
Such activities offer authentic, community-focused entertainment, often at lower costs and with a more personal vibe than large-scale shows.
Spa Days Prioritise Wellbeing

Reflecting growing emphasis on self-care, spa days rank seventh with 150 monthly searches. They top searches in Wakefield, Oldham, and Gateshead.
Spa experiences provide relaxation through treatments, saunas, pools, and pampering—perfect for recharging amid busy lives.
Festivals Capture the Summer Spirit

Festivals come eighth with 142 monthly searches, reigning as favourites in Exeter, Middlesbrough, and Nottingham.
Multi-day events blend music, camping, food, and arts, offering immersive weekends of fun and discovery.
Casinos Deliver Thrills and Glamour

Casinos rank ninth with 113 monthly searches, most popular in Coventry.
The mix of gaming tables, slot machines, and nightlife atmosphere appeals to those seeking excitement and chance.
Operas Appeal to Cultural Enthusiasts

Rounding out the top ten, operas attract 58 monthly searches and lead in Birmingham.
This sophisticated art form draws fans of dramatic storytelling, powerful vocals, and elaborate productions.
Other Notable Mentions
Beyond the top ten, activities like pub quizzes, theatre shows or musicals, escape rooms, and themed nights such as ABBA events also enjoy steady interest, showcasing Brits’ diverse tastes in leisure.
Overall, the study paints a picture of a nation eager for connection, excitement, and escapism—whether through dancing till dawn or unwinding in luxury. As search data shows, Brits are prioritising experiences that spark joy and memories in 2026 and beyond.
Methodology
Monthly average search volume data was taken from Google Keyword Planner based on searches over the past 12 months to reveal the rankings.
The top 63 types of events were analysed based on searches.
The combined search volume for each event’s terms was calculated, and then used to rank the events from the highest number of average monthly searches to the lowest.
