On The Table Read Magazine, “the best arts and entertainment magazine UK“, Brooklyn-based art-pop artist Blums marks her exciting new signing to Take Care Records with the release of her spellbinding debut single and music video, Sinking/Soaring.
The New York indie music community has a major reason to celebrate. Blums, the mesmerizing art-pop project spearheaded by Brooklyn-based musician and songwriter Kelsea Feder, has officially signed with the independent Brooklyn label Take Care Records. To mark this exciting new chapter, Blums has released her highly anticipated debut single, “Sinking/Soaring,” alongside a visually stunning music video.

The Sound of Self-Torment: Inside “Sinking/Soaring”
“Sinking/Soaring” serves as a powerful introduction to the sonic world of Blums. The track weaves a delicate, winding melody that explores the cyclical trap of internal struggle and loneliness. The instrumentation is heavily influenced by Feder’s past experiences working as a jazz club hostess, featuring mellow vibraphone textures and intricate keys that gradually build into an emotional, melodic spiral.
The track is a collaborative triumph, featuring keys and vibraphone from jazz musician Sasha Berliner, who helped unlock the song’s pivotal chord progressions. Co-producer Kirk Palsma also brought an experimental edge to the studio, utilizing unique vocal slicing techniques during the bridge to give the track its distinct, glitchy depth.
A Cinematic Vision for Highs and Lows
Coinciding with the audio release is the official music video for “Sinking/Soaring,” co-directed by Ava Burka and Marianna Kamiaklioyis. The video masterfully captures the stark contrast between emotional extremes. By juxtaposing a hazy, disillusioned landscape of dilapidated houses with the glitz and glamour of live performance, the visual component perfectly mirrors the track’s thematic tug-of-war between rising up and sinking down.

From Classic Hollywood to the Bushwick DIY Scene

The music of Blums is a rich collage of Feder’s diverse artistic journey. Her creative DNA spans a childhood spent obsessed with old Hollywood musical VHS tapes, formal training at an acting conservatory, and years spent cutting her teeth in the Bushwick power-pop circuit.
Before stepping into the spotlight as a solo artist, Feder sharpened her technical skills by playing and singing backup on tour with prominent New York indie fixtures, including fantasy of a broken heart, May Rio, and Shallowhalo. These fragmented experiences blend seamlessly into her current experimental pop soundscape, which anchors heavy, existential lyrics within a beautifully unpredictable musical framework.

What’s Next for Blums and Take Care Records
Blums has already established a loyal following within the New York live music circuit, having shared stages with contemporaries such as Bella Litsa and Nyxy Nyx. Most recently, she treated fans to an intimate preview of her new material at Union Pool in Brooklyn during Rachel Lime’s album release show.
With a debut full-length album slated for release within the year, the partnership with Take Care Records comes at the perfect time. Known for their guiding philosophy that music must be authentic to truly matter, the Brooklyn label provides the ideal home for Feder’s uncompromising creative integrity.
Looking Ahead: Fans can expect more live performance announcements in the near future as Blums prepares to roll out her debut album.
