Housed in the city’s first stone theater, designed in 1638 by Jacob van Campen, the hotel retains its historic charm while embracing contemporary design and eco-conscious innovation. This transformation solidifies The Dylan’s position as a leader in Amsterdam’s boutique hospitality scene, where understated luxury meets purposeful craftsmanship.
Thoughtful Design with Timeless Appeal
The renovation, led by Amsterdam-based Studio Linse and Format Furniture, began with the Loft Suites in late 2023, introducing a design philosophy centered on restraint and tactile materials. Custom oakwood cabinetry with quartzite tops, freestanding Vallone bathtubs, and curated vintage furnishings create spaces that feel timeless yet modern.
In May 2024, the Serendipity building, an annex added in 2014, was reimagined with warmer tones, soft carpets, and ornamental moldings, alongside custom vanities, mirrors, and lighting crafted for each bathroom. The updates honor the building’s architectural legacy while enhancing guest comfort with a seamless blend of old and new.
Sustainability Woven into Heritage
Sustainability is at the core of The Dylan’s evolution. Already Green Globe Certified, the hotel introduced high-performance Fineo insulation glass in the Serendipity building to reduce heat loss while preserving its historic aesthetic. Interior façade insulation improves thermal efficiency without altering the listed exterior, and a heat recovery ventilation system reuses warmth from airflow to minimize energy waste. A seasonal thermal energy storage system, currently in development, will further enhance sustainable heating and cooling through underground storage. These upgrades reflect The Dylan’s commitment to conscious design, where environmental responsibility integrates effortlessly into the guest experience.
Elevating Spaces and Experiences
Beyond its rooms, The Dylan has elevated its public spaces. In January 2023, a refreshed lounge debuted, followed by the launch of até, an intimate six-seat chef’s table, in March. In 2024, meeting rooms were updated to align with the hotel’s historic event spaces, including the Ariana, Atrium, Regents, and Barbou rooms, all set against the backdrop of a secluded inner garden. These venues provide a refined setting for weddings, private dinners, and curated events.
The hotel’s dining offerings, led by the Michelin two-star Restaurant Vinkeles and the Japanese-Mexican-French-inspired até, alongside Bar Brasserie OCCO’s curated cocktails and High Wine experience, create memorable sensory experiences. A new gym featuring Technogym equipment is planned for spring 2026, further enhancing the guest experience.
