On The Table Read Magazine, “the best entertainment eBook magazine UK“, set in a 1970’s El Encanto Hotel in Santa Barbara, Julien Löwenfels’ “Secrets Of A 100ft Boy” is a semi-autobiographical tale of family, resilience, and the loss of innocence amidst a backdrop of thrilling and unsettling events.
Secrets Of A 100ft Boy

In the opulent yet decaying El Encanto Hotel, nestled amidst the glamorous backdrop of 1970s Santa Barbara, a peculiar family grapples with secrets and sorrows. Ten-year-old Scott, the protagonist, possesses extraordinary abilities: he can inexplicably grow to a towering 100 feet and commune with the spirits of the departed. This unique perspective grants him a unique vantage point on the lives of his eccentric family members, whose own eccentricities range from artistic pursuits to a penchant for self-destruction.
As the family’s dysfunction deepens, a chilling murder casts a long shadow over their lives. Scott, with his heightened senses and uncanny insights, becomes an unwitting detective, piecing together clues and confronting the unsettling truths hidden beneath the surface of their glamorous facade.
Secrets of a 100ft Boy is a darkly humorous and poignant coming-of-age story that blends the macabre with the magical. It’s a tale of grief, healing, and the enduring power of family bonds, even when those bonds are frayed and tested.
Julien Löwenfels, a descendant of renowned American poet Walter Löwenfels, weaves a captivating narrative that draws inspiration from his own experiences, crafting a story that resonates with a timeless sense of melancholy and a touch of the surreal.

I hope by sharing my story that I will be able to entertain and perhaps help others to heal. My family was all about gallows humour as a coping strategy, so I have dubbed my writing style “Fam Noir,” which is a combination of my Hollywood family and film noir. All of this took place in 1975 at a formerly glamorous hotel, which in itself becomes another character in the book.
