The Sillingham Robins

Peter Watson’s “The Sillingham Robins” is a delightful breath of fresh air in the crime fiction genre. This heartwarming novel eschews the typical grit and gore, instead offering a charming and humorous tale of friendship, courage, and the unexpected resilience of the human spirit.
At the heart of the story is Tuppence, a retired actress who overhears a disturbing blackmail plot unfold. With limited information and facing a dismissive police force, Tuppence rallies her eclectic circle of friends – including the crotchety ex-fisherman Henry, the undertaker with a phobia of dead bodies, and the tech-savvy Wayne – to bring the criminals to justice.
“The Sillingham Robins” is more than just a cosy mystery; it’s a celebration of the unexpected bonds that can form between people of different ages and backgrounds. Watson masterfully portrays a diverse cast of characters, each with their own unique quirks and strengths. He challenges the stereotypical image of the elderly as frail and powerless, showcasing their wisdom, courage, and the creativity that comes with a lifetime of experience.
This heartwarming novel is a testament to the power of intergenerational collaboration, demonstrating that when the wisdom of age is combined with the energy and technological savvy of youth, remarkable things can happen. With its witty dialogue, engaging characters, and a heartwarming message of hope and resilience, “The Sillingham Robins” is a feel-good story that will leave you smiling.

My family were poor, but I was loved, looked after and had an idyllic childhood.
Most of my working life was spent in the IT industry – not on the technical side but in sales, marketing and management. Much of it included writing the likes of proposals and marketing copy. I retired early when my wife became ill with dementia. This then took my life in another direction – setting up a charity, assisting with creating another and becoming a campaigner for better services for people affected by dementia. For 9 years I sat on a government board advising on dementia. For respite, I began to write a novel – The Sillingham Robins is the result.
Now I write, play golf and bowls, hill-walk, travel, taste whisky and generally enjoy life. I live happily in Aberdeen with my partner Ruth.
