VAMP

A trailblazing influencer marketing agency founded by Coventry University alumni has taken the entertainment industry by storm, securing high-profile clients like Disney, Netflix, and Arsenal Football Club. VAMP, the UK’s first agency dedicated exclusively to representing and developing black digital talent, is transforming the influencer marketing landscape while championing authentic black female voices.

VAMP was launched in 2017 by Christina Okorocha, Ruby Aryiku, and Rumbi Mupindu, who identified a significant gap in the market for culturally resonant representation in the entertainment and influencer industries. The trio’s journey began at Coventry University, where Ruby and Rumbi studied Media Communications and Culture, and Christina pursued Business. Their paths converged through the African Caribbean Society (ACS), where they forged a shared vision for change.

Sparking the Idea for VAMP

The idea for VAMP was sparked during summer placements when Christina and Ruby, working near each other at Google and Universal Pictures, frequently fielded questions about youth and black culture. Recognizing the demand for authentic perspectives, they teamed up with Rumbi in their final year of university in 2016. The group initially offered marketing services to entrepreneurial students, signing their friend and former Coventry student Mariam Musa, a successful YouTube makeup influencer, as their first client.

Building a Global Client Roster

Since its official founding, VAMP has grown into a global enterprise with an impressive portfolio. The agency has spearheaded major film campaigns for Disney, including Black Panther and The Little Mermaid, while also collaborating with Netflix and grassroots community initiatives. With a strong UK presence, VAMP is now setting its sights on expansion into the US and Africa in 2025.

Rooted in Coventry’s Transformative Education

The success of VAMP reflects the transformative education and entrepreneurial spirit fostered by Coventry University Group, a global education leader with a mission of “Creating Better Futures.” Known for its innovative and inclusive approach, Coventry University empowers students through world-class facilities, industry partnerships, and a commitment to producing job-ready graduates. The university’s Gold rating in the 2023 Teaching Excellence Framework and its 5 QS Stars Overall Rating underscore its dedication to excellence.

VAMP’s founders credit Coventry’s supportive environment for nurturing their ambition and skills. From their early days at the ACS to their current status as global industry leaders, Christina, Ruby, and Rumbi exemplify the university’s ethos of driving societal change through enterprise and innovation.

Looking Ahead: A Global Future

As VAMP continues to break barriers and expand its reach, it stands as a testament to the power of vision, collaboration, and the transformative education provided by Coventry University Group. With plans for further growth, the agency is poised to redefine influencer marketing on a global stage, all while amplifying underrepresented voices.
