A Long-Awaited Resurgence for First-Wave Shoegaze Pioneers

Originally formed in the early 1990s as LowSunday Ghost Machine, the project left behind a lasting cult following for its distinct blend of blistering guitar work and mercurial atmospheres. After dissolving years prior, original band members Shane Sahene and Bobby Spell reunited as a duo.

This comeback follows the success of their previous release, the White EP, which earned a top-two spot on Post-Punk.com’s Best EPs of 2025. While the earlier release focused on exploring light, texture, and dreamlike drones, the Black EP serves as its darker, more intense counterpart. Together, the paired EPs feature cover art that forms a cohesive 12×24 visual statement when stacked, mirroring the concept of a dual-sided release.

Exploring the Sound of the ‘Black EP’ and Focus Track ‘Shattered’

Led by the focus track “Shattered”—which is paired with a striking music video produced by Jer Herring—the new collection embraces a stark, elegant gravity. Critics have drawn stylistic parallels between the project’s brooding atmosphere and iconic post-punk and darkwave acts such as Joy Division, The Chameleons, and Molchat Doma.

According to the creators, the recording process for the new material felt effortless and instinctual, functioning almost like a Jungian exploration of the psyche’s darker, more confessional emotions. Rather than sounding purely pessimistic, the tracks channel feelings of isolation and introspection into memorable melodies that ultimately leave listeners with a sense of lingering hope.

The five-track tracklist for the release includes:

  1. You’re So Wired
  2. Shattered
  3. Someone To Talk To
  4. This Is Not Heaven
  5. Don’t Want To Dream Again
