The Origins of “Vincent”

Formed during the mid-2000s within New York City’s vibrant underground scene, Ecce Shnak comprises David Roush (composer, bassist, and co-lead vocals), Bella Komodromos (vocals), Chris Krasnow (guitar), Gannon Ferrell (guitar), and Henry Buchanan-Vaughn (drums), with the name pronounced Eh-kay sh-knock.

According to Roush, the new single originated as a concept for an unproduced film imagined by a classmate during his time at Temple University in Philadelphia back in 2015. Musically described as a mid-tempo, punchy hardcore track paired with classical art-song delivery, the song takes aim at a very specific type of everyday annoyance. The title character represents the classic smug and inconsiderate archetype that most people encounter in daily life—someone who isn’t a villain on a grand scale, but is irritating enough to warrant an eye-roll. The track ultimately culminates in a defiant climax where the narrator vows to dismantle the antagonist’s attitude through sheer vocal power.

A Nostalgic Visual Homage

The accompanying music video for “Vincent” was directed and edited by DJay Brawner, who also produced the visual alongside Brooks Jones, Beth Narducci, and David Roush.

Roush notes that the visual direction serves as a deliberate nod to 1990s alternative nostalgia, specifically acting as an homage to the music video for 311’s hit “Down.” The conceptual link was inspired by the matching tempos, feels, and production styles shared between the two tracks.

Touring Plans and Recent Output

Known for combining technical precision with chaotic, high-energy live shows, the band maintains a busy touring schedule. Following a West Coast run last year alongside Spacehog and features on EMF’s track “LGBTQ+ Lover,” Ecce Shnak hit the road for an East Coast tour with platinum-selling alternative legends EMF, followed by international dates in the United Kingdom.

The upcoming album follows the band’s 2025 EP, Shadows Grow Fangs, a release recorded and produced by Jeff Lucci, mixed by Nicholas Vernhes (known for his work with Animal Collective, Deerhunter, and The War on Drugs), and mastered by Grammy-winning engineer Joe LaPorta.

Dandy Variances is set to arrive later this year, promising more of the group’s signature collision of classical sensibilities and avant-garde rock energy.
