Gina Zo grew up in the suburbs of Philadelphia, where her passion for music began early. Family gatherings with her grandparents featured dancing with flashlights as makeshift strobe lights and singing into improvised microphones. These moments laid the groundwork for her career. Influenced by artists like Norah Jones for her soulful depth and Stevie Nicks for her mystical style, Gina created homemade videos and performed spontaneously, showcasing her determined spirit from a young age.

At 18, Gina signed with an independent label in Philadelphia but soon encountered the music industry’s tougher aspects. Disillusioned, she stepped away, only to return after a breakup that prompted her to reclaim her identity. She reunited with her original band to form Velvet Rouge, a rock group focused on defiance and artistic independence.

Velvet Rouge’s 2024 debut EP captures Gina’s raw emotions. Tracks explore the pain of unfulfilling relationships in one song and the confusion of self-identity in another. Produced by Brian McTear and Amy Morrissey, known for work with The War on Drugs, Dr. Dog, and Sharon Van Etten, the EP blends early 2000s rock energy with 1990s grit, serving as a soundtrack for self-discovery.

The band earned recognition as Best Rock Band in Philly in late 2022 and was featured in Philly Style Magazine as the city’s hottest rock act. They performed at festivals like XPoNential Fest, MusikFest, and Beardfest, and appeared on NPR’s National Public Radio Day and WXPN’s Free At Noon.

A Voice on The Voice and Bold Self-Expression

Gina’s time on The Voice as part of Team Blake included mentorship from Gwen Stefani, who encouraged greater authenticity. This guidance deeply affected Gina, helping her embrace her true self. In 2023, she openly declared her bisexuality in the anthem Faking It, turning her experiences into an empowering story for the LGBTQIA+ community. Her message emphasizes that genuine identity defies conformity and that true belonging comes from chosen connections.

In 2025, Gina released her first solo single, Dirty Habits, a rock-pop ballad exploring how dreams surpass reality. Produced by Grammy winners Justin Miller and Tim Sonnefeld, it gained over 30,000 streams in its first week and drew praise for its bold, unfiltered emotion.

Her follow-up, Only Bad Men Make Me Feel This Way, is a breakup track blending strength and vulnerability. It highlights her singer-songwriter skills with acoustic guitar and synth elements, capturing the mix of relief and lingering pain after ending a relationship.

I Need to Cry is a synth-driven summer track about finding community, accepting oneself, and releasing emotions. Co-written with Sonnefeld and Miller, it serves as her second Pride anthem since 2023.
