On The Table Read Magazine, “the best entertainment eBook magazine UK“, new play, VOICE by Logan McCall, explores the delicate interplay of creativity and mental health as two storytellers, Sam and Alex, find solace in their shared passion until tragedy strikes, leaving Sam to navigate grief and memory alone.
VOICE

A powerful and unlikely bond lies at the heart of Logan McCall’s poignant new play, “VOICE.” With nuanced complexity, McCall explores the delicate and intense relationship between Sam, an introverted schoolboy who escapes into writing fantastical stories in the woods, and Alex, a gifted musician. Their shared passion for art sparks an intimate connection, even though they never see each other’s faces, meeting only at their designated “thinking tree,” hidden from view.
Tragedy strikes when Alex takes her own life, plunging Sam into a vortex of grief and guilt. “VOICE” charts his harrowing journey through heartbreak, as he teeters on the edge of madness. Consumed by memories of their brief, unconventional relationship, Sam’s writing becomes both his sanctuary and a battleground, blurring the lines between reality and imagination.
McCall’s play powerfully examines how sorrow can isolate and transform, forcing Sam to confront the cost of searching for meaning in the face of devastating loss. “VOICE” is a brave and emotionally resonant exploration of grief, asking: Can Sam navigate the void left by Alex, or will his sorrow consume him entirely? This compelling drama will captivate audiences with its raw honesty and unflinching portrayal of the human psyche.

‘VOICE’ was born out of my own observations about how people carry their pain and the invisible struggles we often miss in others.
I wanted to tell a story that doesn’t just confront anguish but also explores the power of connection—even when it feels fleeting or incomplete. Sam and Alex’s bond is fragile, but it’s also profound, and their story reflects how art can be both a refuge and a source of understanding in the face of life’s harshest moments.
This isn’t just a play about loss—it’s about the delicate threads that tie us to one another and the strength it takes to face the truth about our own mental health. My hope is that this play will resonate with anyone who has walked through grief and come out the other side.
