As the fourth property in the prestigious Imperial Hotel portfolio (joining Tokyo, Osaka, and Kamikochi), this seven-story gem marks a significant expansion for the iconic brand founded in 1890. Reservations opened on November 17, 2025, via the official website, inviting travelers to secure stays in this exclusive retreat affiliated with The Leading Hotels of the World since April 2025.
Preserving History While Embracing Modernity
The hotel thoughtfully revitalizes the 90-year-old Yasaka Kaikan, adjacent to the renowned Gion Kobu Kaburenjo theater, under the guidance of Obayashi Corporation for architectural restoration and New Material Research Laboratory for interior design. Divided into three distinct wings—Main Building (Heritage and Contemporary) and North Wing—the property offers immersive views of Gion’s lantern-lit streets, Kyoto’s surrounding mountains, and the theater’s grand roof.
A highlight is the introduction of tatami flooring in the North Wing— a first for the Imperial Hotel brand—creating tranquil spaces that harmonize with Gion’s traditional streetscape.
