A Journey Through a Fractured World

The novel opens in a Paris still reeling from the devastation of war, where the shadow of antisemitism looms large. Francois, a young boy caught in the turbulence of his circumstances, embarks on a journey that is both exhilarating and perilous. From heart-pounding bike rides through the city’s bustling streets to the poignant milestone of his bar mitzvah, Ashworth paints a vivid picture of a boy coming of age in a world that feels both vibrant and menacing. As Francois encounters love, loss, and betrayal, he uncovers dark family secrets that threaten to unravel everything he holds dear.

What sets From Paris to Zion apart is its unflinching exploration of the long-term effects of antisemitic violence—not only on those who lived through it but on the generations that follow. Francois’s story is one of emotional resilience, as he grapples with the weight of his identity and the quiet pain of feeling unseen in a fractured world. Ashworth’s portrayal of his inner turmoil is both tender and powerful, capturing the strength it takes to keep moving forward when the world seems indifferent.
