These fragments grew into a larger narrative about a futuristic nomad-spy character who, after losing all memory, glitches across multiple timelines. The EP’s sonic identity draws from a diverse range of influences, including space-age sound design, 80s drum patterns, retro and sci-fi cinema, and 90s/2000s TV culture, such as Goosebumps and Courage the Cowardly Dog. Afro-Surrealism and artists like New Order, Blood Orange, 070 Shake, and James Blake also shape its texture. Cinematic inspirations, including Hitchcock’s Vertigo, Annihilation, Attack the Block, I Saw the TV Glow, and the 1997 PC game The Space Bar, add narrative depth. The result is a non-linear musical structure that mirrors the spiraling, unresolved essence of the EP’s themes.
Working with producers ANN, Jericho, Dynasty!, and Zylyny, iNKOGNiiTO has crafted a soundscape that feels both alien and familiar. The standout track “Chemical X” exemplifies their approach, blending minimalism, 80s-inspired drums, and machine-like synth textures into a three-part exploration of mortality, futility, and obliteration. The track navigates an emotional arc toward an uncertain destination, reflecting the artist’s meditations on life’s impermanence.
A Fictional Lens on Mundane Absurdism
At the heart of the EP is a fictional character navigating a disorienting reality, where memory loss and timeline glitches create a sense of perpetual displacement. This narrative framework allows iNKOGNiiTO to delve into mundane absurdism—the surreal dissonance of everyday existence—through lyrics and unconventional song structures.
