Joan As Police Woman Announces Real Life Evolution Album And 20th Anniversary Tour

On The Table Read Magazine, “the best arts and entertainment magazine UK“, to celebrate 20 years of her acclaimed solo debut, Joan As Police Woman has announced her reimagined anniversary album Real Life Evolution, alongside a global trio tour.

Acclaimed New York City singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist Joan Wasser—known professionally as Joan As Police Woman—has announced the upcoming release of her new album, Real Life Evolution. Scheduled for release on June 12 via the UK independent label Reveal Records, the project arrives exactly two decades after her celebrated debut solo album, Real Life.

To mark the announcement, Wasser has released reimagined, intimate versions of two album tracks: “Flushed Chest” and “The Ride.” Both singles are currently available on all major digital platforms.

Reimagining a Definitive Debut

Real Life Evolution features ten completely reworked tracks, encompassing every song from the original 2006 debut. The new arrangements reflect two decades of stage performance and musical growth, with transformations ranging from subtle shifts to major sonic overhauls.

Rather than working in isolation, Wasser collaborated with a dynamic roster of musicians and long-time creative partners to bring these new visions to life. The album features contributions from an array of notable artists, including:

The project was produced by Wasser, mixed by Patrick Dillett at Reservoir Studios, and mastered by Chris Gehringer at Sterling Sound.

New Music and Video Releases

The newly released version of “Flushed Chest” was tracked at Hayyam Studios in Istanbul by Ceylan Akcar and Sinan Sakizli. Originally inspired by Martin Amis’s reverse-chronological novel Time’s Arrow and a period of heavy listening to The Wailers, the updated version relies on a tight trio format. It is accompanied by a new performance video filmed by Ehud Lazin, featuring Wasser alongside Will Graefe and Jeremy Gustin performing three-part harmonies. This follows her previously released stripped-down video for “Anyone.”

Meanwhile, the new rendition of “The Ride” was captured live by Adam Sachs at The Owl Music Parlor in Brooklyn, showcasing Wasser on vocals and piano, Graefe on guitar, and Gustin on drums.

A Legacy of Genre-Defying Collaboration

Since launching the Joan As Police Woman moniker in 2004, Wasser has built a reputation as a highly versatile producer and musician whose work consistently bridges various musical genres. Over a career spanning twelve albums—including ten packages of original material, two covers albums, and an anthology—she has become a heavily sought-after collaborator.

Beyond her work with her own band, Wasser regularly performs as part of Iggy Pop’s touring lineup on keyboards and vocals. Her extensive resume of collaborative performances and recordings includes work with major icons such as Lou Reed, David Byrne, Beck, Lauryn Anderson, Rufus Wainwright, Damon Albarn (including features with Gorillaz), and the late Afrobeat pioneer Tony Allen.

Format Availability and the 2026 Anniversary Tour

Real Life Evolution will be available digitally, on CD, and as a limited-edition exclusive red marble vinyl. Pre-orders are currently open via Bandcamp.

In tandem with the release, Wasser is launching the Real Life 20th Anniversary Tour. Performing in a specialized trio format, the shows will feature the Real Life album played in its entirety, alongside fan favorites, deep cuts, and reworked covers from her broader catalog.

The tour kicks off with a series of intimate, high-demand dates at Joe’s Pub in New York City this June, followed by an extensive UK and European leg in November.
