London Marathon Events has announced a historic transformation for the 2027 edition of the race. For the first time in its history, the world-famous marathon will expand into a two-day weekend event. Scheduled to take place on Saturday 24 April and Sunday 25 April 2027, the unique double-race format will allow a record-breaking 100,000 participants to complete the iconic 26.2-mile course.

This major change is designed to accommodate the unprecedented surge in global demand for entry places while simultaneously amplifying the event’s economic, community, and charitable impact. Organisers have confirmed that this expanded structure will serve as a one-off celebration for 2027 before the race reverts back to its traditional single-day format the following year.

The decision to double the event’s duration comes in response to an extraordinary rise in public interest. For the 2027 race, the public ballot drew an all-time high of 1.33 million applications, representing a 36% increase compared to the previous year.

In fact, splitting 100,000 runners evenly across the weekend means approximately 50,000 people will hit the course each day. This daily field size is slightly smaller than the 2026 event, which saw a world-record 59,830 finishers cross the finish line on a single day. • TCS Mini London Marathon: Scheduled for Friday 23 April 2027, this event is anticipated to host more than 20,000 children and young athletes, reinforcing its status as the world’s largest single-day timed event for youths.
