On The Table Read Magazine, “the best arts and entertainment magazine UK“, Lucky Horse Red’s self-titled debut album, a genre-defying blend of psych, rock, and Americana, delivers a cinematic journey through the American West with Bunny Gaubert’s poetic vocals at its heart.
Lucky Horse Red
The Los Angeles-based, genre-blending band Lucky Horse Red has officially released their self-titled debut album through Shuga Records on September 26. Accompanying the album launch is a double single featuring “Noon Moon” and “Whiskey,” showcasing the band’s eclectic and captivating sound.
“Noon Moon” immerses listeners in a sultry, summery atmosphere, pairing poetic lyrics with the warm glide of steel guitar. Its infectious group-vocal chorus channels the relaxed yet sharp energy of artists like Courtney Barnett or Kurt Vile. Meanwhile, “Whiskey” delivers a spirited country-rock vibe, delving into the magnetic pull of reconnecting with a past lover, with lyrics that confront an ex’s lingering craving for the singer’s wild spirit.

The Voice of Bunny Gaubert
Fronted by the enigmatic Bunny Gaubert, a former Playboy model, Lucky Horse Red is a six-piece ensemble that radiates raw, poetic energy. Gaubert’s vocals strike a balance between distant and intimate, reckless yet clear, weaving anarchic poetry into every track. Her presence anchors the band’s dynamic sound, making it both mysterious and deeply relatable.
The band is a collective of Los Angeles’ DIY scene veterans, including Keilah Nina, formerly of The Aquadolls, guitarist Mark Martino of Babe Ruthless, multi-instrumentalist Laine Gaubert, steel guitarist Colin Croom (known for his work with Twin Peaks and MJ Lenderman’s touring band), punk guitarist Jake Melendez of Thee Azmatics, and drummer Mika Rabina, who also fronts Siam Jem. Together, they fuse psych, rock ‘n’ roll, indie, Americana, folk, jazz, and punk into a sound that’s both cinematic and authentic.

A Cinematic Debut
Recorded at Joshua Tree Recording Studio, Lucky Horse Red spans 13 tracks that explore themes of excess and innocence, wrapped in a hazy, 1960s analog glow. The album offers a dark, folky journey through the American West, seen through a distinctly female lens. Its blend of vulnerability and boldness creates a universe that’s as seductive as it is introspective.
Live Performances and What’s Next
Fresh off a performance at LA’s Family Affair Folk Fest alongside acts like Mirrorball and The Kept Men, Lucky Horse Red is poised to announce more live shows in the coming months. Fans can stream the newly released album and keep an eye out for updates on upcoming performances.
