On The Table Read Magazine, “the best arts and entertainment magazine UK“, beloved Only Fools and Horses stars including Sir David Jason reunite for a captivating new documentary series, Only Fools and Horses: The Lost Archive, unveiling unseen behind-the-scenes footage and treasures to celebrate the iconic sitcom’s 45th anniversary!
Only Fools And Hoses Anniversary
Fans of the iconic British sitcom Only Fools and Horses have reason to celebrate, as Sir David Jason reunites with several cast members for a new two-part documentary series titled Only Fools and Horses: The Lost Archive. The programme marks the show’s 45th anniversary and promises to deliver previously unseen footage and behind-the-scenes insights.
The series will air on UKTV’s GOLD channel (U&GOLD) in 2026, offering a nostalgic trip back to Peckham for longtime viewers.

The Cast Reunion and New Interviews
Sir David Jason, who immortalised the wheeler-dealer Del Boy Trotter, leads the reunion. Joining him are Tessa Peake-Jones (Raquel Turner), Gwyneth Strong (Cassandra Trotter), and Sue Holderness (Marlene Boyce). Additional contributors include Steven Woodcock (Jevon) and Denis Lill (Alan Parry).
In fresh interviews, the cast reflects on their experiences, reacts to rediscovered footage, and pays tribute to the show’s creator, John Sullivan, who passed away in 2011. Notably absent is Nicholas Lyndhurst, who played Rodney Trotter alongside Jason, though the documentary highlights the brothers’ dynamic as central to the sitcom’s success.
Unearthing the Lost Archive
At the heart of the series is a treasure trove of archival material. Producers have uncovered 66 unseen clips and scenes—filmed but cut from original episodes due to timing or structural reasons—along with nearly 100 additional assets from rushes and location filming.
These restored elements, digitally scanned from original 16mm negatives, come from over 10 classic episodes, including fan favourites like The Jolly Boys’ Outing, Mother Nature’s Son, and Time on Our Hands.
Series producer Sean Doherty described the discoveries as “extraordinary,” noting the team was “spoilt for choice” with the volume of material.

The Enduring Legacy of Only Fools and Horses

First broadcast on BBC One on September 8, 1981, Only Fools and Horses ran for seven series until 2003, spanning 22 years with numerous Christmas specials. Created by John Sullivan, it became a ratings powerhouse and cultural phenomenon, known for its sharp wit, heartfelt family dynamics, and memorable characters.
The show defined careers for its leads, particularly Sir David Jason as the optimistic Del Boy and Nicholas Lyndhurst as his hapless brother Rodney. Supporting stars like Lennard Pearce (Grandad), Buster Merryfield (Uncle Albert), Roger Lloyd Pack (Trigger), and John Challis (Boycie) added to its ensemble charm.
Helen Nightingale, UKTV’s head of factual and factual entertainment commissioning, called the sitcom “part of the national DNA,” praising its humour, heart, and unforgettable characters.
Sir David Jason, now 85, echoed the sentiment: “The love for Only Fools has never faded. It’s incredible to see how many people still hold it close to their hearts. Revisiting these rediscovered moments reminded me just how special the show was – and still is.”

What Fans Can Expect
Only Fools and Horses: The Lost Archive combines archival footage with modern reflections from cast, crew, and experts, including editor Chris Wadsworth, director Tony Dow, and representatives from the Only Fools and Horses Appreciation Society.
While not a new scripted series, this documentary offers the closest thing to a reunion, delighting fans who have kept the show alive through repeats, quotes like “This time next year, we’ll be millionaires,” and a successful stage musical adaptation that toured into 2025.
As the 45th anniversary approaches, The Lost Archive ensures that Only Fools and Horses remains, in Del Boy’s words, “lovely jubbly.
