Love Is Uncertain

Star2 and JJ SP, acclaimed Ka-ren artists and refugees who fled Myanmar as children to escape military persecution, have released their poignant new single and music video, “Love Is Uncertain.” This soulful track, performed in both Ka-ren and English, explores the complexities of love and commitment, particularly within the context of a demanding music career.

Lyrics like “Girl you know you my only lover // I will never put nobody else above you // You the only one I wanna sing to”, convey a deep longing for genuine connection. The accompanying music video, filmed on location in Thailand, beautifully captures the artists’ artistic collaboration. “Love Is Uncertain” serves as a powerful reminder of the precious nature of love, transcending cultural and linguistic barriers to deliver a universal message.

Star2 is committed to amplifying the voices of talented Ka-ren artists on a global stage. To that end, he will embark on a significant tour next month, visiting JJ SP and all nine refugee camps in Thailand alongside Chinatown Runner and Ler Mu Dex. These camps include Ban Mai Nai Soi, Ban Mae Surin, Mae La Oon, Mae Ra Ma Luang, Mae La, Umpiem Mai, Nupo, Ban Don Yang, and Tham Hin.

This new beginning ignited a passion for music, leading to collaborations with renowned artists like Soulja Boy, $tupid Young, Mozzy, MBNel, Luh Kel, Lil Poppa, HoodTrophy Bino, YSN Flow, and MarMar Oso.

JJ SP

Santi Wangthong, known as JJ SP, is a 23-year-old Ka-ren hip-hop artist from Thailand. Like Star2, he is a refugee, forced to flee Myanmar with his family after the Burmese military’s brutal persecution. His family sought refuge in Tham Hin, one of the nine refugee camps along the Thai-Myanmar border.

As the eldest of three children, JJ SP faced significant responsibilities. He left school in ninth grade to support his family, demonstrating a remarkable sense of duty. Their paths crossed when he met Star2 in Mae Sot during Star2’s inaugural visit to Thailand, where he established “Star Studio,” a free recording space for local artists to connect and create.
