Having spent years as the musician in the background, Reyes has carved out a unique space for herself with the release of her latest single, “Miss Congeniality.”

Inside the Bushwick Boxing Gym Music Video
To bring the track to life, the accompanying music video takes viewers straight into OutBox, a queer and trans boxing gym located in Bushwick. Co-directed by Reyes and Katie Colwell and edited by Jill Blutt, the visual features a bruised Reyes stepping into the boxing ring while wearing a pink dress and a tiara.
The aesthetic directly pays homage to the classic film Miss Congeniality, drawing parallels to the struggle of navigating a version of femininity that does not naturally fit. By pairing a hyper-feminine wardrobe with smeared makeup, sweat, and a busted lip, the video introduces a chaotic contrast that mirrors the emotional turmoil of the song.
From Child Star to Multi-Hyphenate Indie Artist
Born in Chicago and playing guitar since the age of four, Reyes achieved early childhood stardom in School of Rock before building a diverse career in film and television. Her recent acting credits include appearances alongside SZA and Keke Palmer in One Of Them Days, Netflix’s The Merry Gentleman, and the 2023 Sundance queer horror comedy short film Gianna, which she wrote and starred in alongside Margaret Cho.
Despite a busy acting schedule, music has remained a consistent anchor. Following prior releases like “sick”—which earned recognition on Rolling Stone’s Songs You Need To Know list—alongside singles like “another vice” and “Big League Chew,” “Miss Congeniality” marks her most self-assured chapter to date.
