SLIK ART

In a world that often feels overly structured, a new colouring book series is inviting adults to break every rule and reclaim the pure joy of creation. British artist Jayne Belinda Allen has just released the complete SLIK ART collection – ten vibrant, boundary-free colouring books designed for those who crave unfiltered creative expression, deep relaxation, and the thrill of colour without limits.

Throughout history, colouring has been more than a childhood pastime. For adults, it has long served as a quiet sanctuary – a way to slow racing thoughts, release bottled emotions, and rediscover imagination. Jayne Belinda Allen’s SLIK ART series taps directly into that timeless tradition while pushing it into bold, contemporary territory.

The spark for SLIK ART came years ago in an art class, when students were handed photocopied sheets and told simply to “fill in the lines.” Frustrated by the restrictions, Jayne set out to create something entirely different: original artwork that celebrates freedom rather than obedience. Drawing on decades of multidisciplinary practice – embroidery, pottery, calligraphy, life drawing, botanical illustration, and more – she developed a distinctive visual language of fluid, oil-slick shapes, expressive linework, and surreal forms that dance across the page.

The result is a ten-volume colouring series unlike any other. There are no tiny, fussy details that demand perfection. There is no “right” colour palette, no prescribed technique, no judgement. Just sweeping, rhythmic designs that invite pens, markers, pencils, watercolours, acrylics – anything the colourist desires.

The Complete SLIK ART Collection

Each volume explores a distinct theme, yet all share the same oil-slick DNA: shimmering, interconnected forms inspired by the mesmerising play of light on oil in water.

Where It All Began: The Magic of Oil on Water

Jayne’s fascination started with a simple observation: the way oil floats on water, refusing to fully mix, creating ever-shifting rainbows when light strikes it. Those hypnotic, gliding patterns became the foundation of every design.

From there, the concept grew. Family requests shaped early volumes – a clown and dolphin design for her daughter, high-speed vehicles for her nephew – but the series quickly expanded into a broader celebration of form, texture, and fantasy.

A Lifetime in the Making

Art has been my whole life. I spent my childhood drawing, painting, sewing, sculpting, anything creative. I wanted people to experience that same sense of freedom. In SLIK ART, there are no rules. Just colour, experiment, relax, and most importantly, enjoy.

Over the years, I’ve used recycled materials, embroidery, calligraphy, technical pens, and pottery techniques. All those pieces of my journey show up in these books. I designed SLIK to give people original artwork they could make their own. Whether someone wants to explore imaginative colour or simply unwind, these books offer a beautiful place to start.

–Jayne Belinda Allen

Jayne Belinda Allen has never been confined to one medium. As a child in the UK, she famously traded her dolls for her sister’s crayons and never looked back. Over the decades she has exhibited award-winning work at the Nuneaton Festival of Arts, mastered botanical illustration and life drawing, turned recycled materials into sculpture, and filled countless sketchbooks with pattern and texture experiments.

SLIK ART represents the culmination of that rich, varied journey – a distillation of everything she has learned about colour, movement, and creative liberation.

For adults seeking more than another mandala or garden scene, SLIK ART offers something rarer: permission. Permission to make a mess. Permission to use neon orange where subtle grey was “supposed” to go. Permission to turn an abstract swirl into whatever the imagination demands.

In ten bold volumes, Jayne Belinda Allen has created not just colouring books, but an open invitation: step in, let go, and watch your own rainbows appear.
