On The Table Read Magazine, “the best arts and entertainment magazine UK“, singer songwriter Wendy Moore discusses the inspiration behind her single, Tangled Wiring, and her love of music.

Written by JJ Barnes
I interviewed Wendy Moore about her life and career, what inspired her to write her new single, Tangled Wiring, and her advice for other musicians.
Tell me a bit about who you are.

Hey! I’m Wendy Moore, a singer from the Netherlands. I write pop-rock for the dreamers and for anyone who’s ever felt invisible. I’m your shoulder to cry on, but also that little push in the back to keep you going.

When did you first want to write songs?
My story began in the Dutch dressage arenas. Until I was 18, I competed in subtop-level dressage and was part of the Dutch Talent Team. But sometimes, dreams evolve. I wasn’t happy in the sport anymore and became very depressed. I needed a distraction, so I bought a secondhand guitar and started teaching myself how to play, not even knowing I could sing.
After about a year, I posted a cover online just for fun and for friends to see. The response was crazy. That moment made me realise I might be onto something. I started writing songs as a form of therapy, an outlet I didn’t have at home, at school, or really anywhere.
When did you take the first step toward writing songs seriously?
I’ve always been a storyteller. I used to write stories on my computer every day after school. My first song came from a school project with best friend After that, I realised how amazing songwriting was, and I began writing for myself.
What was your first released song, and what was it about?
My first release was called So Over Fake Friends. It’s not on streaming anymore, haha. It didn’t really match my style now. I released it in 2019, and it was about fake people who pretend to be your friend but end up stabbing you in the back. It’s still floating around on YouTube if you’re curious.

What was your latest release, and what is it about?
My latest release is Tangled Wiring, also the title track of my EP. It’s about the mess in my head, having so many ideas that I end up doing nothing at all. Losing track of time just thinking, not acting. I get really chaotic in those moments. I asked myself, “Why am I like this? Why does my brain have such tangled wiring?” And that became the song.
Focusing on Tangled Wiring, what were the biggest challenges?
The biggest challenge was the shift in sound. This song has more electronic elements than my usual work. It was hard to find something that felt true to the song while still sounding like me. But I think we did a really good job with that!
How many songs are you working on right now?
Right now, my focus is more on my upcoming tour! But I’m also in the studio working on two new songs that will be released later this year.

Do you stick to a theme in your music, or follow your mood?
I definitely follow the mood! My discography is pretty diverse. I love exploring different genres and trying new things.
What’s your favourite song you’ve recorded, and why?
It’s an older track called Corner Ghost. It’s not a big, but it means so much to me. It really captures how I feel most of the time. I love the lyrics, and it’s also where my fandom name “Ghosties” came from, so it’s extra special!
Do you find inspiration in other people’s music? Who do you listen to most?
Absolutely! I often listen to my personal playlist when writing, picking up elements that inspire me. My favourite artists are Avril Lavigne, Paramore, Twenty One Pilots, and Linkin Park. I also enjoy some K-pop. I find their variety of sounds super inspiring. I really like groups like Enhypen and TXT.
Do you write your own music, or collaborate with others?
I write everything myself! Sometimes I collaborate, because more brains means more ideas, right? But most of the time, I write alone. There are only a few songs in my catalog that I’ve written with other people.
Do you play any instruments?
Yes! I play guitar (my main instrument), and I also play some bass and ukulele. I perform with instruments live as well.
Do you like performing live, or does it scare you? Where can people watch you?
I LOVE performing live! It’s honestly my favourite thing in the world. I do get nervous sometimes, but the moment I step on stage, all that disappears. I have a tour coming up in early 2026!
Is your music available online? Where can people find it?
Yes! Just search my name and you can find me on all major platforms.
Are you making music full-time, or do you have a day job too?
I work part-time at my family’s business, where I help with marketing. I’ve been helping my parents for years. I also write songs for others and have recently started writing for Chinese artists and K-pop!
Are your friends and family supportive of your music career?
Yes, very much. I’m so thankful. My family is always there to support me, and my friends help whenever they can. I’m truly blessed with the people around me.
What’s something you didn’t expect about being a songwriter? What surprised you?
Honestly? Just how many of us there are! When I was younger, I didn’t know any songwriters. Now that I’m in the industry, I realise there are so many incredibly talented people behind the songs we all hear.

Have you had any standout moments because of your songs?
Yes! After my first headline show, someone told me how much my music meant to them and said they wanted to remember the night forever. They asked me to draw my signature so they could get it tattooed… and they actually did!
Any important upcoming events we should know about?
Yes, I’m currently planning my first international tour, which starts in early 2026!
What advice would you give someone who wants to start writing songs?
Just start. And don’t be afraid to suck. There are so many songs I never wrote because of my own insecurities. You might think you’re not good enough, but you are.
Songwriting is like cooking, drawing, or learning a new language. You have to practice to get good. So set the fear aside and just write, even if you throw it away later, you’re still learning. Every attempt makes you better.
Are you proud of what you’ve accomplished? Was it worth the effort?
I’ve always struggled to say when I’m proud of myself. I think I’m a bit of an overachiever, always focused on what’s next. But things are finally starting to fall into place, and yeah, I am proud. 🙂
