Pop icon Sophie Ellis-Bextor has announced her biggest-ever UK headline tour, culminating in a triumphant show at London’s Royal Albert Hall on June 26th. The tour kicks off in Glasgow on May 24th, visiting 15 cities across the country, including Manchester, Newcastle, Cardiff, and Bristol.

To coincide with the tour announcement, Sophie unveils her dazzling new single, “Freedom of the Night,” a glorious disco-pop anthem that marks a confident return to her iconic sound. The vibrant music video, directed by longtime collaborator Sophie Muller, premieres tomorrow at 6:00 PM on ITV Lorraine, followed by a wider release. Filmed at London’s Rivoli Ballroom, the video captures the essence of the song with a joyful and nostalgic dance gala aesthetic.

“Freedom of the Night” sees Sophie collaborating with a stellar lineup of producers, including Biff Stannard (Kylie Minogue, JADE), Duck Blackwell, Shura, Chris Greatti (Willow Smith, The Dare), and David Wrench (Jamie XX, Hot Chip), alongside her husband and The Feeling bassist, Richard Jones. This exciting new chapter finds Sophie embracing her musical roots, blending classic pop with infectious disco and dance beats.

With a 25-year career boasting five top 10 albums and eight top 10 singles, including anthems like “Murder on the Dancefloor,” “Take Me Home,” and “Get Over You,” Sophie continues to captivate audiences worldwide.

Following the global success of “Murder on the Dancefloor” – which recently enjoyed a resurgence thanks to its feature in the film “Saltburn” – Sophie is poised for another exciting chapter. She recently completed sold-out headline tours across Europe and the US, supported Nile Rodgers, and graced the stage at festivals worldwide, including a memorable performance with Peggy Gou at Glastonbury last year.

Sophie Ellis-Bextor has continued to thrive across various creative endeavors. Her musical journey saw the release of “HANA,” her seventh studio album, which achieved critical acclaim and reached #8 on the UK Albums Chart, marking her fifth Top 10 album. This album, like its predecessors “Familia” and “The Song Diaries,” was a collaborative effort with her long-time friend and musical partner, Ed Harcourt.

The COVID-19 pandemic unexpectedly brought about a new chapter in Sophie’s career. What began as a series of entertaining and uplifting “Kitchen Disco” livestreams on Instagram evolved into a cultural phenomenon. These online dance parties resonated with audiences worldwide, leading to the release of two live albums, “Songs from the Kitchen Disco” and “Sophie Ellis-Bextor’s Kitchen Disco: Live from the London Palladium,” and successful live tours that continued to captivate audiences in 2023 with her “Christmas Kitchen Disco” tour.

Beyond music, Sophie has expanded her creative horizons. She authored “Spinning Plates,” a candid and insightful book that offers a glimpse into the joys and challenges of balancing motherhood and a demanding career. The success of the “Kitchen Disco” concept extended to the culinary realm with the release of “Love. Food. Family: Recipes from the Kitchen Disco,” a cookbook co-authored with her husband, Richard Jones, bassist for the band The Feeling.

Furthermore, Sophie has maintained a strong presence in the media, hosting her popular weekly show, “Sophie Ellis-Bextor’s Kitchen Disco,” on BBC Radio 2. In November 2021, she demonstrated her commitment to philanthropy by undertaking an impressive 24-hour Danceathon for Children in Need, raising over £1 million for this worthy cause.
