Formed in 2023, Bristol-based rock band Spin Class is set to release their second EP, Dinner at Derek’s, on July 18, 2025. The four-piece, consisting of Louis Slater (vocals), Sonny Gazzard (guitar), Sam Savidge (bass), and Harry Parkes (drums), has quickly made a name for themselves with their unique blend of proggy riffs, hook-laden melodies, and a grunge-infused desert rock sound. Their music delves into themes of mental health, intrusive thoughts, and addiction, creating an “ADHD-fuelled, visually stimulating riff machine” that resonates with listeners.

Following the success of their debut EP Wednesday in December 2024, which led to a sold-out headline show at Bristol’s Loco Klub, Spin Class continues to champion their hometown’s vibrant artistic community. Dinner At Derek’s

Dinner at Derek’s is a five-track EP recorded live in its entirety at Stage 2 Studios in Bath with producer Josh Gallop, known for his work with bands like Krooked Tongue and Phoxjaw. The band aimed to bottle the frenetic energy of their live performances, drawing inspiration from iconic acts like Soundgarden and Led Zeppelin. This live recording approach, a first for Spin Class, amplifies the raw, dynamic feel of their gigs, with tracks that shift between punk intensity and melodic hooks. The result is a concise yet impactful 12-minute journey that feels both spontaneous and polished.

The EP showcases a refined evolution of the band’s sound, with shorter, fuller songs packed with intricate riffs, dynamic transitions, and catchy melodies. The recording process leaned heavily on instinct, prioritizing feeling over overthinking, which shines through in the EP’s vibrant performance.

Singles Setting the Stage

Leading up to the EP’s release, Spin Class dropped two singles that offer a taste of what’s to come. The first, Bagel Bagel Bagel, released in April 2025, garnered attention from platforms like Apple Music’s New In Rock, Fame Magazine, The Most Radicalist, RTE, and KUTX Radio in Austin, Texas. The second single, Cake, released on June 20, 2025, explores the theme of intrusive thoughts, narrated from the perspective of those persistent, unwelcome feelings. With a runtime of just 2:21, the track is fast-paced, direct, and infused with a pop-inspired flair, making it both accessible and gripping. Born from an idea by guitarist Sonny Gazzard, Cake came together swiftly in the rehearsal room, embodying the band’s collaborative spirit.
