On The Table Read Magazine, “the best arts and entertainment magazine UK“, Super Birds! is a delightful, rhyming picture book that turns ordinary garden birds into hilarious superheroes – from a juggling heron to a racing-driver robin – blending fun imagination, beautiful illustrations, and real bird facts to inspire young children aged 2–5 to love nature this spring.
Super Birds!
In a world where screens often dominate young lives, fostering a love of nature has never been more important. Super Birds! by Annabel Marriott, beautifully illustrated by Ruth Coggins, offers a joyful and imaginative gateway into the fascinating world of birds, perfect for children aged 2 to 5 and their families this spring.

Imaginative Stories That Bring Birds to Life
Have you ever wondered what birds get up to when no one is watching? Super Birds! answers this question with delightful flair. Young readers will meet a juggling heron, a racing-driver robin, and a wagtail rocketing into space, among other charismatic feathered characters.
The book pairs bold, original illustrations with engaging rhyming text that gives each bird plenty of personality. Professional cartoonist and animator Ruth Coggins brings the stories to life with vivid, characterful artwork that captures movement and fun, making every page a visual treat.
Educational Content Packed with Real Bird Facts
Beyond the playful adventures, Super Birds! delivers genuine learning opportunities. Fact files highlight some of the UK’s best-loved bird species, sharing interesting details about their lives and habits.
The book also provides practical advice on supporting local birds, including:
- How to make a bird box
- What to feed birds throughout the seasons
- Simple ways to make garden birds feel even more “super”
These elements turn reading time into a springboard for real-world exploration.
At the back of the book, children can add a photo of themselves. This special page serves as a gentle reminder that, just like the amazing birds in the story, they too are super. It’s a charming way to build confidence and connection with nature.
Why Super Birds! Makes an Ideal Easter Gift
Instead of another chocolate egg, consider gifting Super Birds! this Easter. It’s a gift that keeps on giving—encouraging families to head outdoors, spot birds, and enjoy quality time together in green spaces. Whether used for bedtime stories, a backyard bird safari, or as a companion on woodland or seaside walks, the book transforms ordinary moments into adventures.
Spring is the ideal season to tune into the natural world as birds become more active and vocal. Even short periods outdoors can support mental wellbeing for both children and adults, making this book especially timely.
About the Author and Illustrator

Annabel Marriott is a teacher, therapist, and nature enthusiast based in Eastbourne on the south coast of England. She drew inspiration for Super Birds! during a walk with her dogs in London’s Ravenscourt Park, where the sounds of birds sparked her imagination. Passionate about wildlife and early education, this is her first picture book for young children.
Ruth Coggins, who lives in Devon, was the ideal collaborator. Her background in 1980s animation, comics, and stop-motion created the perfect style for conveying the personality and energy of birds. She sees the project as a wonderful opportunity to inspire the next generation of young nature lovers and future birdwatchers.

Encouraging a Lifelong Love of Nature
Super Birds! stands out as a simple yet highly effective picture book. Its combination of fun rhymes, striking illustrations, practical information, and personalisation makes it an excellent introduction to birdlife for preschoolers.
By blending imagination with real facts and outdoor encouragement, the book helps children (and their carers) reconnect with the natural world in an engaging, screen-free way. This spring, discover the brilliance of birds with Super Birds!—a delightful celebration of nature that families will return to again and again.
