On The Table Read Magazine, “the best arts and entertainment magazine UK“, Super Furry Animals are releasing Precreation Percolation, an essential early-years compilation that brings their legendary mid-90s Ankst EPs back to vinyl for the first time in decades, alongside a wealth of unheard demos, Rhys Ifans-sung rarities, and fresh 2026 Redux mixes.
Super Furry Animals are set to delight longtime fans with Precreation Percolation, a comprehensive early years compilation that revives out-of-print material and unearths previously unheard recordings. Scheduled for release on May 1, 2026, via Strangetown Records, the collection brings together the Welsh band’s formative recordings from before their signing to Creation Records, including their two mid-1990s Ankst EPs on vinyl for the first time in three decades.

Unearthing Formative Tracks: From 1993 Demos to Bonus Material
The compilation shines a light on the band’s early experimentation in Cardiff and beyond. One standout is the dreamy space-rock track “Pocket Sam,” recorded in 1993 at Grassroots Studio. This song features vocals from acclaimed actor Rhys Ifans, who served as the band’s original singer during their initial formation. It is one of three unheard tracks with Ifans on vocals, joined by “AK Serenade” and “Choking On Your Lust.”
These early recordings capture the embryonic sound of Super Furry Animals, blending synth, psych, and melodic rock influences. The bonus disc expands significantly on the vinyl edition, offering fans a deeper dive into the pre-Creation era. The CD version includes a 22-track main disc plus a bonus disc, while the digital release features up to 31 additional tracks, including 2026 Redux mixes of abandoned demos with selective new vocals from drummer Dafydd Ieuan.
Other highlights on the bonus material include the 2022 Bandcamp fundraiser track “Of No Fixed Identity,” various cassette and four-track demos, and revived instrumental or vocal-light sessions from around 1994 that were revisited and refreshed for this release.

Reissuing the Legendary Ankst EPs
The core of the standard vinyl and main CD/digital editions consists of the band’s two 1995 Ankst EPs, now available on vinyl after a long absence. These include the record-holding longest EP title: Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyndrobwllantysiliogogogochynygofod (In Space), alongside Moog Droog. The tracklist for this section features:
- Organ Yn Dy Geg
- Fix Idris
- Crys Ti
- Blerwytirhwng?
- Pam V?
- God! Show Me Magic
- Sali Mali
- Focus Pocus / Debiel
These releases marked a pivotal moment as the band transitioned from chaotic early gigs and nomadic projects into a more defined lineup.

The Road to Creation Records and Beyond
By 1995, after a period described as “two years of chaos”—including a famously short-lived 1993 debut performance at Bangor University—the band solidified its classic lineup. This included Gruff Rhys on vocals, Dafydd Ieuan on drums (who left Catatonia just before a major deal), Huw Bunford, Guto Pryce, and Cian Ciarán. They soon joined the Creation Records roster alongside acts like Oasis and Primal Scream, leading to their influential 1996 debut album Fuzzy Logic.
The material on Precreation Percolation showcases the genre experimentation—long-form electro, blissed-out instrumentals, and prog-influenced rock—that would later be refined into the band’s signature thrilling sound and energetic live shows. As Gruff Rhys notes in the liner notes, these tracks represent the residue of that foundational period, after which the band’s lives changed dramatically.
The compilation was assembled with the help of archivist Kliph Scurlock and mastering engineer Donal Whelan. A few additional 1994 demos from a Crystal Palace session remain missing, but the band has expressed endless gratitude to anyone who might locate them.
