On The Table Read Magazine, “the best arts and entertainment magazine UK“, celebrate 75 years of the world’s longest-running radio drama as The Archers comes alive on stage for the very first time – join host Angela Barnes and the cast for a fun, theatrical night of live scenes, archive treasures, foley sound effects, and Ambridge magic.
BBC Radio 4’s The Archers, the world’s longest-running radio drama, is stepping out of the recording studio and onto theatre stages across the UK to celebrate its 75th anniversary in 2026. The brand-new live production, titled The Archers: Live at 75, will tour the country from June to November 2026, offering fans a unique theatrical experience filled with nostalgia, insight, and the everyday drama of village life in Ambridge.

A Cultural Institution Turns 75
First broadcast on 1 January 1951, The Archers has aired six times a week for more than 20,000 episodes. Set in the fictional rural village of Ambridge in Borsetshire, the series follows the lives, loves, scandals, and triumphs of its residents. Over seven decades, it has mirrored major social and cultural shifts in Britain while remaining rooted in the rhythms of countryside life. Today, it continues as one of the BBC’s most popular programmes and ranks as the top on-demand show on BBC Sounds for listeners of all ages, including regularly topping charts for those under 35.
What to Expect from the Live Show
The production is framed as a playful reimagining of the Ambridge Flower & Produce Show. Hosted by award-winning comedian and devoted Archers fan Angela Barnes, each performance will feature a rotating line-up of cast members, a BBC archivist, and a live sound-effects specialist.
Audiences can look forward to:
- On-stage interviews and insider stories from the cast
- Specially written scenes performed live with authentic foley sound effects
- Rare archive material spanning 75 years from the BBC vaults
- Demonstrations of the sound artistry that brings Ambridge’s fields, kitchens, and barns to life
- An interactive pub quiz inspired by The Bull
- A communal sing-along to the show’s iconic theme tune
The evening blends comedy, theatrical flair, nostalgia, and behind-the-scenes revelations, creating a one-of-a-kind celebration of the programme’s characters, storylines, and distinctive production techniques.
Something for Newcomers and Long-Time Fans Alike
The tour is designed to welcome first-time listeners with an accessible entry point into the world of Ambridge, while giving lifelong fans deeper insight into how the drama is made. It highlights the craft behind character development, storyline creation, and the unique soundscape that has made the series a British institution across three generations.
Full details of the rotating cast will be announced in early 2026, promising a mix of beloved long-standing actors and newer voices currently shaping the show.
Creative Team and Vision
Angela Barnes, who will host the tour, has described her involvement as a dream opportunity for any dedicated fan, expressing excitement about immersing herself fully in Borsetshire life alongside the characters.
The production is presented by Fane in partnership with the BBC. Directors James Albrecht and Serena Brett have noted the creative challenge and privilege of bringing a show that has long existed primarily in listeners’ imaginations onto the stage.
BBC Radio 4’s Drama and Fiction Commissioner, Alison Hindell, has expressed pride in the programme reaching this milestone and hopes the live shows will deliver more of what fans love, adding an extra layer of Ambridge enjoyment to the anniversary celebrations.
