This groundbreaking project will consist of four intersecting biopics, each told from the perspective of one Beatle, offering a fresh and immersive take on the story of the world’s most iconic band. Directed by the acclaimed Sam Mendes, known for Skyfall and American Beauty, the films are slated for a theatrical release in April 2028, promising what Mendes has dubbed “the first bingeable theatrical experience.”

Harris Dickinson as John Lennon
Harris Dickinson, a 28-year-old British actor, steps into the shoes of John Lennon, the sharp-witted, rebellious co-founder of The Beatles. Lennon, born in 1940 in Liverpool, was the band’s visionary lyricist and rhythm guitarist, penning classics like “Imagine” and “Strawberry Fields Forever.” His complex personality—marked by humor, activism, and tragedy (he was assassinated in 1980)—makes him a formidable role for any actor.
Dickinson has already proven his versatility in films like Triangle of Sadness, Where the Crawdads Sing, and Babygirl, where he showcased his ability to handle emotionally layered characters. With a BAFTA TV Award nomination for A Murder at the End of the World and buzz as a potential James Bond, Dickinson’s star is on the rise, making him a compelling choice to capture Lennon’s enigmatic spirit.
Paul Mescal as Paul McCartney
Irish actor Paul Mescal, 29, will portray Paul McCartney, the melodic genius and bassist whose optimistic charm balanced Lennon’s edge. McCartney, born in 1942, co-wrote many of The Beatles’ biggest hits, including “Hey Jude” and “Let It Be,” and remains a living legend at 82, still performing today.
Mescal burst onto the scene with his heart-wrenching performance in Normal People, earning an Emmy nomination, and solidified his status with an Oscar-nominated role in Aftersun. Fresh off his turn in Gladiator II, Mescal’s emotional depth and musicality (he’s sung in previous projects) make him a natural fit for McCartney’s warmth and creativity.
Barry Keoghan as Ringo Starr
Barry Keoghan, a 32-year-old Irish talent, takes on Ringo Starr, The Beatles’ affable drummer and occasional vocalist, known for songs like “Yellow Submarine.” Starr, born in 1940, brought a steady beat and a down-to-earth presence to the group, and at 84, he continues to tour with his All-Starr Band.
Keoghan, the oldest of the quartet, has earned acclaim for his raw, transformative performances in The Banshees of Inisherin (Oscar-nominated) and Saltburn. His quirky charisma and subtle resemblance to Starr—coupled with rumors of drum lessons for the role—suggest he’ll bring both humor and heart to the beloved Beatle.
Joseph Quinn as George Harrison
Joseph Quinn, a 31-year-old Londoner, will embody George Harrison, the “quiet Beatle” and lead guitarist whose spiritual depth shone in songs like “While My Guitar Gently Weeps.” Harrison, born in 1943, introduced Indian influences to the band’s sound and pursued a solo career until his death from cancer in 2001.
Quinn rose to fame as the metalhead Eddie Munson in Stranger Things, showcasing his musical chops, and has since starred in A Quiet Place: Day One and Gladiator II. With upcoming roles as the Human Torch in The Fantastic Four: First Steps, Quinn’s soulful intensity aligns perfectly with Harrison’s introspective nature.
A Unique Four-Film Vision
Unlike traditional biopics, this project will unfold across four separate films, each focusing on the individual perspective of one Beatle—John, Paul, George, and Ringo. The films will intersect, sometimes overlapping, to reflect the band’s shared journey from their formation in 1960 to their breakup in 1970, while highlighting the distinct personalities and experiences of each member. This ambitious tetralogy marks the first time Apple Corps Ltd. and The Beatles—McCartney, Starr, and the estates of Lennon and Harrison—have granted full life story and music rights for a scripted project.
Filming is set to be an epic undertaking, with Mendes revealing that principal photography will span over a year. The result will be a cinematic event designed to draw audiences to theaters, with Sony Pictures banking on the “bingeable” release strategy to capitalize on Beatlemania’s enduring appeal. All four films will premiere in April 2028, though it’s unclear whether they’ll drop simultaneously or stagger throughout the month.
