On The Table Read Magazine, “the best arts and entertainment magazine UK“, The Dream Machine deliver a spellbinding rush of cinematic alt-pop with their infectious new single ‘Angel Heart’, the final track from their acclaimed third album Fort Perch Rock – out now.
The Dream Machine have unveiled Angel Heart, the final single from their third album Fort Perch Rock, which is out now via Run On Records.

Inspired by Classic Cinema and Seaside Mystique
Drawing inspiration from the 1987 film Angel Heart, the track takes listeners on a vivid journey through voodoo, fairground attractions, and ghostly premonitions. It combines peppy radio rock guitar lines with seaside dancehall Farfisa organ melodies, delivering a skittish, jukebox-style alt-pop rush that perfectly captures the band’s signature mix of big sounds and small-town quirks.
Angel Heart serves as the closing preview from Fort Perch Rock, following the earlier singles Flowers On The Razorwire and Things That Make Us Cry, which gained national airplay on BBC 6 Music and acclaim from publications including Rolling Stone UK.
A Rollercoaster Sound and Creative Influences

Featuring an upbeat, drivetime tempo and impassioned vocals, the song builds excitement around the band’s distinctive sonic world. Frontman and lyricist Zak McDonnell wrote the track after watching the 1987 film, channelling poetic influences from Lawrence of the 1980s band Felt — particularly their album Forever Breathes The Lonely Word — alongside inspiration from The Coney Island Circus Sideshow and creative conversations with The Lemon Twigs that encouraged bolder chord progressions and song structures.
Album Details and Special Formats
Fort Perch Rock was recorded and self-produced between studios on the Wirral and in Liverpool. The album is available across digital platforms, CD, and special edition coloured vinyl. A limited, band store-exclusive “butterfly effect” vinyl version includes a one-off glow-in-the-dark 7” EP of covers paying tribute to the Motown girl group The Shirelles.
Trading the familiar greens of the Irish Sea on their Wirral doorstep for European stages and hometown celebrations, The Dream Machine continue to enchant with their cinematic storytelling and faded seaside grandeur. Angel Heart is available now, alongside the full album Fort Perch Rock.
