A Triumphant Reunion for the Milestone
To commemorate their 20th anniversary, leader Marcella Puppini and longtime member Kate Mullins have reunited with Rosanna Schura, an early member of the group who briefly returned in 2016. This classic lineup brings extra sparkle to the occasion, supported by the same talented musicians featured on the upcoming record: Martin Kolarides on guitar, Henrik Jensen on double bass, and Peter Ibbetson on drums.
The group’s seventh studio album, titled The Birthday Party, arrives on March 27, 2026. It combines original compositions with carefully selected covers that the trio has long wanted to tackle, creating a festive collection that feels like a personal toast to their journey.
Kicking Off the Celebration with a Bold Single
The first taste of the album came with the release of their cover of Bonnie Tyler’s classic “Total Eclipse of the Heart.” The track captures the group’s playful, campy energy, transforming the dramatic power ballad into something uniquely their own while staying true to their harmonic style.
The album dives into jazz standards with fresh takes on pieces like “Take the ‘A’ Train,” “Honeysuckle Rose,” and “Take Five.” The latter presented a particular challenge, as it ranks among the best-selling jazz songs ever, yet the group crafted a version they could genuinely enjoy performing.
They also revisit “Parole Parole,” a beloved Italian and French favorite from the 1970s that has been part of their live sets but never before committed to record.
Original tracks add depth and personal touches. “Hey Sister” delivers a lively, self-celebratory vibe, while “Postcards From The Road” — co-written by Marcella and Kate — weaves in real-life anecdotes from their travels, from looking stylish in Istanbul and enjoying Moscow Mules to indulging in Berlin’s gin scene.
A highlight is their inventive reworking of “Happy Birthday,” which begins as a waltz before shifting into country-swing territory and nodding to influences like Stevie Wonder and 50 Cent, resulting in a joyful pastiche that embodies the album’s party spirit.

From Humble Beginnings to Global Success
Marcella Puppini, originally from Bologna, formed the group in 2004 while studying at London’s Trinity College of Music. By 2005, they had secured a record deal. Their debut album, Betcha Bottom Dollar, arrived with bold, swing-infused rearrangements of classics like “Mr. Sandman,” “Jeepers Creepers,” and “Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy,” alongside modern hits such as Blondie’s “Heart of Glass,” Kate Bush’s “Wuthering Heights,” and The Smiths’ “Panic.”
The record achieved Top 20 status in the UK and enjoyed a long run on the Billboard charts, launching them on a path of international touring and helping spark a broader appreciation for retro-glam aesthetics in music.
Their distinctive look drew from Vivienne Westwood designs — where Marcella once worked — and the vibrant underground club and burlesque scenes in east London, overlapping with figures like Paloma Faith. Over time, they bridged the gap between niche club culture and mainstream appeal, as festivals grew more theatrical and pop stars embraced showgirl elements.
Timeless Appeal and Independence

Throughout their career, The Puppini Sisters have stayed true to their vision, prioritizing the music they love over fleeting trends. They have watched vintage fashion explode in popularity, from rare original pieces to affordable online reproductions.
Memorable moments include performing at the Royal Variety Show, where King Charles (then Prince Charles) recognized them and praised their work, and collaborating with Michael Bublé in Los Angeles, where he shared that he jogged to their Christmas album.
With their wit, glamour, and unmatched harmonies, The Puppini Sisters continue to reinvent swing and vintage styles for contemporary listeners, moving effortlessly from intimate venues to major stages.
As they toast two decades of creativity and connection, The Birthday Party and the accompanying Birthday Tour in May 2026 promise an exuberant showcase of everything that has made them a enduring favorite — a glittering tribute to their past and a vibrant step into the future. Tickets for the tour are available now, inviting fans to join the celebration.
