On The Table Read Magazine, “the best arts and entertainment magazine UK“, Finnish rock legends The Rasmus unleash the high-octane single “Banksy” from their latest album Weirdo, paying electrifying tribute to the iconic street artist.
Banksy
The Rasmus have long stood out in the rock scene for their distinctive fusion of brooding atmospheres and soaring, anthemic melodies, paired with lyrics that tackle real-world issues and celebrate those who feel like outsiders. On November 19, the Finnish rock veterans—certified 6x Platinum and 8x Gold in their home country—released “Banksy,” the newest single and accompanying music video from their 11th studio album, Weirdo, out now via Better Noise Music.

“Banksy” draws direct inspiration from the enigmatic British street artist and activist known for provocative stencil graffiti appearing in public spaces worldwide. The track serves as a nod to his influence, particularly his recent pieces addressing the war in Ukraine and pressing environmental concerns. The song itself is a fast-paced, energetic rocker that has quickly become a highlight in the band’s live performances, energizing crowds with its driving rhythm and uplifting vibe.
A Live-Focused Music Video
The music video for “Banksy” was directed by the band’s bassist, Eero Heinonen, and captured during a recent stop on their Weirdo tour at Helsinki’s iconic Tavastia venue. Heinonen aimed for a visually intense experience with a rapid pace, ensuring constant action on screen to match the song’s momentum. The clip incorporates footage of enthusiastic audiences and elements of street graffiti spotted across Europe throughout the tour, blending live concert energy with urban art motifs.

Dominance in Finland and Global Reach
In Finland, where they hold the title of the top rock band, The Rasmus lead the way on platforms like Spotify, YouTube, Instagram, and Deezer in terms of followers, views, likes, and streams, boasting over 941 million global streams on Spotify alone. Their sound consistently mixes heavy guitar riffs with futuristic electronic touches and infectious pop hooks, appealing to a broad audience. This approach has solidified their status as one of Finland’s most successful musical exports, with millions of records sold worldwide and numerous awards to their name.
The band—comprising vocalist Lauri Ylönen, guitarist Emppu Suhonen, bassist Eero Heinonen, and drummer Aki Hakala—takes pride in evolving their style while staying true to their roots. Since their major-label breakthrough, they have continued to surprise fans with fresh creative directions.

Solidarity with Ukraine

Earlier in the summer, on July 19, The Rasmus took the stage as the headliner—and the only international act—at the Atlas Festival in war-torn Ukraine. They served as ambassadors for the Good Donations charity fund, collaborating with the festival organizers and Blockbuster Mall to raise more than 3.5 million hryvnias (approximately $84,000). The funds supported the purchase of specialized surgical instruments for the Okhmatdyt National Children’s Specialized Hospital.
Bassist Eero Heinonen directed a short documentary titled The Rasmus in Ukraine, released on September 26, chronicling their experiences in the country and the impact of their involvement.
With Weirdo, The Rasmus reaffirm their place as a dynamic force in rock, blending introspection, social commentary, and high-octane performance energy that continues to resonate with fans around the world.
