On The Table Read Magazine, “the best arts and entertainment magazine UK”, The Horrors’ Tom Furse joins forces with Jakarta dreamgazers Strange Fruit for a dark, acid house-infused remix of ‘Monopolar’ featured on their newly released Drips EP.
Tom Furse, renowned musician from The Horrors and the international supergroup MIEN alongside members of The Black Angels and Elephant Stone, has unveiled a fresh remix of “Monopolar” for Jakarta-based dreamgaze outfit Strange Fruit. Released via Gentle Tuesday Recordings on the band’s latest EP, Drips, Furse applies his signature atmospheric approach to strip away the original sensory overload. In its place, he constructs a darker, more hypnotic core defined by slow-burning breakbeats, harsh ambient soundscapes, and an unmistakable acid house pulse.
Furse brings an extensive production and remix background to the project, having previously lent his talents to notable acts such as Depeche Mode, Franz Ferdinand, Tame Impala, and The Rolling Stones. Beyond his work in traditional rock and alternative spaces, his solo endeavors and film scoring focus heavily on cinematic texture, narrative abstraction, and immersive sound design.
Inside the Drips EP: A Fusion of Shoegaze and Kosmische Electronica
Formed in Jakarta, Strange Fruit consists of Baldi Calvianca, Irza Aryadiaz, John Tampubolon, Nabil Favian, and Dino Kristianto. Since debuting with their 2015 EP Dolphin Leap, the group has continuously shifted between noise-pop, krautrock, shoegaze, and electronica. With Drips, the band solidifies a more cohesive, hybrid sound shaped by analog textures and machine-driven rhythms.
The release features contributions from several other notable international producers. Sean Johnstone—operating as Hardway Bros and co-founder of A Love From Outer Space alongside Andrew Weatherall—brings a heavy dose of downtempo club atmosphere to the remix tracklist. Meanwhile, Jonathan Kusuma of Jakarta’s Dekadenz collective contributes leftfield disco rhythms and deep bass drum echoes. Co-produced alongside Bernardus Fritz, the EP spans a diverse sonic landscape:
- “Pouvoir Moteur” relies on steady, hypnotic motorik beats that evoke an endless highway drive.
- “Iridescent” balances introspective moods with forward momentum, blending minimalist beats with dancefloor euphoria.
- “Monopolar” serves as the emotional centerpiece, capturing a hazy space between dream states and waking awareness.
The visual component for the lead track matches its surreal audio profile. Directed by Mellow Splice, who also designed the EP cover art, the music video employs blurred, technicolor, and water-like imagery to mirror the track’s fluid qualities.

Gentle Tuesday Recordings traces its origins to a Jakarta-based club night established in 2017 by Baldi Calvianca, Benedict Pardede, and Moses Sihombing, taking its name from a Primal Scream track before transitioning into a full-fledged record label in 2021.
The Drips EP is currently streaming across major digital platforms including Spotify, Apple Music, and Bandcamp. For physical collectors, limited cassette and vinyl pressings are scheduled for mid-2026, distributed in partnership with Loide Records for South-East Asia and Japan, and TipTop Records for the rest of the world.
