Total Tommy Releases New Single, Winona Forever

On The Table Read Magazine, “the best arts and entertainment magazine UK“, indie artist total tommy explores identity and distance across time zones in her punchy, emotionally charged new single, Winona Forever.

total tommy has officially released her brand new single, “Winona Forever,” via Play It Again Sam. This punchy, emotionally charged track serves as an ode to home, identity, and human connection, following closely behind her recent comeback single, “Pretty Little Mouth.”

The Story Behind the Song

Written in just four hours on her final day of writing in London, the song captures the intense disorientation of distance. It reflects the unique reality of a life lived across different time zones.

The title and core imagery stem from a photograph of Winona Ryder riding a bike outside a block of high-rise buildings. This specific visual inspired reflections on how small individuals feel within the vast expanse of a city. The lyrics explore how easily identity slips away without the presence of people who truly know the individual, leading to subconscious shape-shifting to fit new environments.

Creative Process and Influences

While crafting this new material, total tommy listened to demos recorded during her London trip. She spent her time jotting down notes, watching movies, and finding pockets of inspiration through reflection and refinement.

Travel played a major role in shaping the sound. Curating specific take-off and landing songs and imagining cinematic scenarios fueled her creative output. Solitude during walks from her temporary home in Hackney to a central London studio generated a powerful sense of nostalgia. Ultimately, the new material grew into a force built from a deep love of 1990s cinema and the filmography of Winona Ryder.
