On The Table Read Magazine, “the best arts and entertainment magazine UK“, discover more about the lives of the wizarding world’s most loyal companions when two new Harry Potter books—beautifully illustrated pocket guides dedicated to Dobby and Hagrid—officially hit UK shelves this August.
The Wizarding World is expanding its bookshelf once again this summer, offering fans a fresh way to explore the lore of two of Harry Potter’s most loyal companions.
Publishing giant Bloomsbury has officially announced the upcoming release of Pocket Potters: Dobby and Pocket Potters: Hagrid, scheduled to hit shelves across the UK on August 13, 2026. (US fans can expect their editions shortly after via Scholastic on August 18).

What are the Pocket Potters?
The Pocket Potters: Little Guides to the Harry Potter Stories are a series of beautifully produced, compact hardback books written by J.K. Rowling. While primarily designed as full-colour introductory guides for younger readers discovering the magic for the first time, the series has quickly caught the attention of lifelong collectors.
The books are specifically crafted to avoid major plot spoilers, focusing instead on character backgrounds, memorable quotes, and fun wizarding facts. However, adult “Potterheads” will also find plenty of entertainment in hunting down the various Easter eggs hidden throughout the artwork.
Current Pocket Potters Lineup (2026):
├── Wave 1: Harry Potter, Ron Weasley, Hermione Granger
├── Wave 2: Professor Dumbledore, Luna Lovegood (Released Feb 2026)
└── Wave 3: Dobby, Rubeus Hagrid (Launching Aug 13, 2026)
A Look Inside the New Guides
Each book features a unique illustrator bringing their own artistic style to the characters’ lives.
Pocket Potters: Hagrid
- Illustrator: Olia Muza (who previously illustrated the Ron Weasley guide and contributed to The Harry Potter Wizarding Almanac).
- What to expect: A whimsical, joyful dive into the life of Hogwarts‘ beloved half-giant. The book explores the chaotic contents of Hagrid’s massive pockets, his long history with his oversized pet boarhound Fang, and a closer look at his time as the Care of Magical Creatures professor.
Pocket Potters: Dobby
- Illustrator: Helen Brady (who also illustrated the Luna Lovegood edition).
- What to expect: A charming, emotional look at the wizarding world’s most famous free elf. The guide covers everything from Dobby’s disastrously well-meaning first meeting with Harry at Privet Drive to his obsession with mismatched socks, bobble hats, and how he eventually secured a paid position in the Hogwarts kitchens.
A Timely Release: These new guides arrive during a massive year for the franchise. With filming for the highly anticipated HBO Harry Potter television series adaptation pushing forward, these mini-guides serve as the perfect piece of light, nostalgic reading to tide fans over.
Both hardcovers are currently available for pre-order at a retail price of £10.00. Keep your eyes peeled, as Bloomsbury has already teased that the collection will continue to grow with more character guides slated for 2027.
