Buddy and Pal (K9: Snoops)
If your young reader loves dogs, mysteries, and a generous helping of giggles, then clear some space on the bookshelf, because a delightful new series is bounding into children’s literature this holiday season.

Buddy and Pal (K9: Snoops) – Growlsville is the charming debut book from Welsh author Al Douglas, introducing two of the most lovable bloodhound detectives ever to wag their tails across the page.
When strange goings-on start stirring up the wonderfully quirky town of Growlsville (think missing picnic baskets, vanishing garden gnomes, and some very suspicious squeaking at night), only one crime-fighting duo has the nose for the job: Buddy and Pal. Armed with super-sensitive sniffers, unbreakable friendship, and an unstoppable craving for cookies, these larger-than-life hounds follow clues, outsmart sneaky culprits, and prove that real heroes come in all shapes, sizes… and with gloriously floppy ears.

Written for confident young readers aged 6–10, the story is packed with playful nods to classic whodunnits while staying fresh, funny, and full of heart. Alongside the laughs and sleuthing, Douglas gently weaves in the duo’s own touching search for a forever home, reminding children about empathy, community, and the joy of belonging.

This is more than just a mystery, it’s a celebration of teamwork, courage, and the kind of loyalty only a dog can show. Perfect for curling up with on a winter afternoon or slipping into a Christmas stocking, Buddy and Pal (K9: Snoops) – Growlsville is destined to become a firm favourite with animal lovers and budding detectives alike.

Al Douglas
Al Douglas was born in the small Welsh village of Ystradgynlais and moved to London at the age of five. Growing up surrounded by showbusiness (his father ran an entertainment agency that worked with stars of stage and screen), Al caught the storytelling bug early. He later honed his craft studying Dynamic Writing with Professor Stuart Browne at NYU and training under legendary Hollywood screenwriting teacher Syd Field at USC. A former member of the BBC Writers Unit with ties to several independent production companies, Al now divides his time between writing and enjoying the beautiful Welsh countryside that inspired so much of Growlsville’s charm.
With Buddy and Pal (K9: Snoops) – Growlsville, Al Douglas has created a pitch-perfect canine caper that’s equal parts hilarious and heartwarming. Young readers won’t just turn the pages; they’ll be begging for the next case!
