Forged in the shadows of Los Angeles and San Diego, UNTER STRØM is the bold new electronic music duo created by longtime collaborators and prolific artists Alex Gonzales (Matte Blvck) and John Kunkel (The New Division, John Grand).

Drawing from decades of combined experience in alternative and electronic music, the pair’s roots run deep in the underground scene. Gonzales has built a dedicated global fanbase through relentless touring and sold-out U.S. shows with Matte Blvck, while Kunkel’s work as John Grand has earned high-profile support from industry tastemakers like Armin van Buuren on A State of Trance and features on Group Therapy Radio.

Emerging from years of studio and band collaborations, UNTER STRØM was born from a shared obsession to push the boundaries of techno, melodic house, and industrial sonics into uncharted territory.

The debut single “Orynth”—released via the renegade independent label Breathing Records—serves as a definitive introduction to the duo’s unique sonic identity.

• Gonzales initially sketched out the opening movements of the track.
