Featuring the unmistakable voice of legendary broadcaster John Suchet OBE and music by acclaimed composer Elena Kats-Chernin, Wild Swans promises to be a deeply moving fusion of storytelling and artistry.

Steve Thompson’s Wild Swans reworks Andersen’s tale for today’s audience, infusing it with psychological complexity and surreal, dreamlike illustrations. The story delves into the emotional intricacies of its characters, particularly the Queen, who emerges as a multifaceted figure navigating grief, power, and transformation. At the heart of Wild Swans is Elena Kats-Chernin’s evocative score, originally composed for a ballet that premiered at the Sydney Opera House in 2003. The score, which includes the widely recognized Eliza Aria—famously featured in a Lloyds TSB advertisement—has been reimagined for trombone, performed by Thompson himself, and piano, played by John Paul Gandy of Sequoia Sounds. The result is a cinematic, elegant soundscape that perfectly complements the story’s emotional depth. Thompson’s arrangements, paired with Kats-Chernin’s compositions, create a contemporary classical performance that feels both timeless and innovative.
