The Meaning and Inspiration Behind ‘Bird of Miracles’

Bird of Miracles stands as YONAH’s most personal project to date. The album title draws from the Hebrew meaning of his full birth name, Yonah Nissim, which translates to “dove of miracles.” The 11-track record functions as both a tribute to his late father and a thoughtful meditation on identity. Across its songs, YONAH explores complex themes including growth, religion, rebellion, and eventual reconciliation, arriving at a place of acceptance and gratitude.

The album was created in collaboration with producer Harper James, known for work with artists including Hudson Freeman, Eighty Ninety, and Aaron Taos.

YONAH’s Artistic Journey and Influences

Born and raised on Manhattan’s Upper West Side and currently based in Brooklyn, YONAH (Yonah Taragin) crafts music that feels both deeply personal and quietly expansive. His songwriting draws from experiences of loss, faith, and the often messy process of self-discovery.

Musically, he blends raw lyricism with an experimental indie edge. His style shows clear influences from artists such as Elliott Smith, Adrianne Lenker, Courtney Barnett, and Beck.

Prior to the debut LP, YONAH released the EPs The House of Damage (2025) and Love So Good (2023). He has built a dedicated following in New York’s live music scene through performances at venues including Nublu, City Winery, and Pete’s Candy Store.
