Young Martyrs Drop Anthemic Single. Sugar On My Tongue, Ahead Of Third Album

On The Table Read Magazine, “the best arts and entertainment magazine UK”, Young Martyrs return with their driving new single ‘Sugar On My Tongue,’ setting the stage for their eagerly awaited third studio album, Might Just Be Enough, arriving later this summer.

Bath indie-americana outfit Young Martyrs are keeping up their momentum this summer following the release of their latest single, ‘Sugar On My Tongue’. Arriving as the second taste of their upcoming third studio album, ‘Might Just Be Enough’, the track continues to build excitement for the full-length record slated for release later this summer.

A Fresh Sound and Star-Studded Production

The new track highlights a period of transition and creative growth for the band. Recorded as a three-piece, the studio sessions saw guitarist Rich Beeby stepping up to handle bass duties before the lineup was solidified with the recent addition of bassist Phil Smith.

The recording process took place across home territory, utilizing Bath’s prestigious Real World Studios and Frome’s Indefra Studios. The band took the helm on self-production alongside co-producer Sebastian Brice and engineer Ben Koch. To top it all off, mastering was handled by industry veteran Christian Wright—known for his work with Ed Sheeran, Blur, and Franz Ferdinand—at London’s iconic Abbey Road Studios.

Sonically, the single pairs driving, shuffling drums and searing electric guitars with sweeping atmospheric rock textures. Tom Corneill’s emotive, yearning vocals tie the arrangement together, steering a narrative that delves deeply into the vulnerable territory of unexpressed physical attraction and intense longing.

Inside the Music Video

To celebrate their West Country roots, Young Martyrs teamed up with director Rhys Davies of Furball Films to shoot a cinematic accompanying music video in Bristol. The visual backdrop features familiar local spots, including Firebird Studios and a central takeaway, paying homage to the region where the band first established their live reputation.

The storyline centers on unrequited adoration between two characters who slowly gravitate toward one another. The narrative is brought to life by lead actors Lorien Tear and Sadie Evans, the latter of whom recently picked up a Best Actress accolade at the It’s My Shout film awards.

Building on a Rich History

Formed in 2020, Young Martyrs made an immediate splash with their self-titled debut album and a sellout UK headline tour. That early success paved the way for high-profile support slots alongside major acts like McFly, Badly Drawn Boy, and The Hoosiers, as well as festival appearances at Glastonbury and Rock Oyster. Following their 2023 sophomore album, ‘Time Is Not On Our Side’, the group successfully expanded their reach internationally with live dates in New York City.
