Thunderstorms in May

Photo by Guilherme Rossi on Pexels.com

Abrupt showers and thunder

filled the air, testing the ground

as the river raced and grew.

The seasons are in motion

and possibility is everywhere,

the world somehow renewed.

Despite all the dire forecasts

and human malice, hope

gleams in dark recesses.

I felt a longing for action,

for solidarity, for change.

The mood is transformative;

I want to ride on the crest

of a great wave as it

surges and falls, destroying

creaking old houses in its path.

Rotten timber, flaking paint,

the whole façade washed away.

A better world exists – if only

we can find our way to it

against the current.
