On The Table Read Magazine, “the best entertainment eBook magazine UK“, Mark E. Scott’s “Day in the Life” trilogy concludes with Free Will, following Jack and Aria’s tumultuous relationship over 24 hours as they confront past traumas and unexpected challenges in their pursuit of love and redemption.
Free Will
Mark E. Scott’s darkly humorous and uniquely structured “Day in the Life” trilogy reaches its dramatic conclusion with the release of Free Will. This series follows the tumultuous relationship of Jack and Aria, two would-be lovers haunted by past failures and brought together by extraordinary circumstances. Each book chronicles just eight hours, creating a sense of real-time unfolding and allowing for deep introspection.

Having survived drunken pub crawls, a plunge into a freezing river, persistent police interference, and a long night in a hospital, Jack and Aria find themselves outside the emergency room in wrinkled scrubs and damp non-slip socks. They are as disheveled physically as they are emotionally. So far, they’ve managed to avoid arrest or involuntary commitment. Now, their only challenge is getting home.
Free Will follows Jack and Aria over the next eight hours as they grapple with individual histories of loss, grief, and guilt. Between snatched catnaps and snowy treks for sustenance, they’re also stalked by a reporter determined to uncover the truth of the previous night’s events.
Their deepest desire is to escape the world, indulge in mimosas and spiked coffee, and communicate through the pages of a shared notebook. However, both comic and heartbreaking external forces constantly intervene as Jack vacillates between self-recrimination and the possibility of redemption. Liquor, letters, and love offer a temporary respite from the relentless grip of the past, but can they ultimately pave the way to forgiveness, reconciliation, and healing?
Jack and Aria may have found solace in each other, but they must now confront the consequences of their actions over the preceding sixteen hours. The past is knocking at their door.
Free Will completes Scott’s captivating “Day in the Life” series, a 24-hour chronicle of Jack and Aria’s unexpected and twisted saga. Book One, Drunk Log, charts the first eight hours of Jack’s unsteady journey toward a planned demise. Book Two, First Date, finds the couple navigating the immediate aftermath of Jack’s failed suicide attempt and, perhaps surprisingly, falling in love.

Mark E. Scott
Mark E. Scott, born and raised in the small manufacturing town of Galion, Ohio, explored various towns in Ohio and Michigan before a four-year stint in the Navy, traveling the world aboard the USS Mount Whitney. Returning to southwest Ohio, he earned an education degree from Miami University, only to unexpectedly transition into a banking career.
Now residing happily in a condo in Cincinnati’s Over-the-Rhine neighborhood, Scott dedicates his free time to writing, devising creative (and often unsuccessful) ways to reach his children by phone, and pursuing his passions for travel and the outdoors—most recently, navigating snow-covered mountains with varying degrees of success (and occasionally wayward skis).
