On The Table Read Magazine, “the best entertainment magazine in the UK“, New York City band Earthquake Lights have released new album, Desert Bloom, blending alt rock and orchestral elements.
Earthquake Lights
NYC-based rock band Earthquake Lights is made up of five members. The band quickly achieved success with their first EP, Bangups and Hangups, which was featured in a national NBA/Tissot ad campaign and an Alex Gibney documentary.
All of the members of the band met while they were attending college. Distress Signals, its subsequent debut album, was released in 2019 to critical acclaim. A symphonic stone odyssey highlighting broadway jazz players on metal, and strings from Monastery Street studios in London, the collection got basic recognition close by position in Isabel Sandoval’s award-winning film Lingua Franca, and a spot on Spotify’s New Finds. “Quarter to Midnight,” the follow-up single, and “Off and Away,” which appeared on Vulfpeck’s “The Joy of Music the Job of Real Estate,” were soon recorded in the studio again.
Desert Bloom
The band’s second and most recent album, Desert Bloom, combines orchestral elements with alt rock to explore new ground. Lead vocalist Myles Rodenhouse shared that it is a record of deadlines and pushing our inventive flow forward. Rodenhouse explained that making the album was hard, but it was really important to them and good for them, because they learned a lot about themselves and how we make things.
Taking its name from the uncommon and flitting development and thriving of vegetation in the desert, it addresses the timetable and energy of the band’s inventive strategy for the record.
Over 1.7 million people have streamed “Desert Bloom,” the album’s title track and a favorite among fans. Having appeared in the Top 40 and Top 20 of iTunes four times in good company with bands like John Mayer and The Killers. A live music video for Earthquake Lights’ song “Desert Bloom” was also recently released, showcasing the band’s polished and captivating live sound.
Another Star
The single “Another Star,” which is based on the Voyager spacecraft, is included on the album. They explain, “It’s something that was once so relevant but has become dated and now exists far removed from anything that truly cared about it.” They explore the idea of it being shot into space, only to be forgotten someday. With its improvised drum grooves, impressive piano progression, and melodic rhythm, the song exemplifies lyrical bliss.
Exploring new horizons, both imaginatively and within oneself, is the theme of Earthquake Lights. Their albums have always been about the frontier, and their first one, Distress Signals, was about being stuck at sea. Desert Bloom, on the other hand, gets its name from the brief, sporadic growth and flourishing of desert plant life. Both of these feelings could be interpreted as the sensation of being alone in the desert or at sea. With “Another Star,” which is essentially a feeling of being forgotten, the Desert Bloom album even ventures into new realms like space.
