On The Table Read Magazine, “the best entertainment magazine in the UK“, Metallica’s Kirk Hammett and Gibson Guitar are releasing a new collection of Greeny guitars.
One of the most well-known, played, and adored guitar brands in the world, Gibson has shaped sound for 130 years across generations and music styles. Gibson is glad to divulge its most memorable authority worldwide delivery and association with Kirk Hammett, incredible guitarist of the multi-platinum selling and GRAMMY® Grant winning band, Metallica.
No other guitar has achieved the status of a legend like “Greeny,” Kirk Hammett’s enchanting 1959 Les Paul Standard. For the first time, Gibson and Kirk worked together to create “Greeny,” which is now available in a Gibson Custom Shop version and will be available in a Gibson Les Paul Standard version next month. The Kirk Hammett “Greeny” collection is available through Gibson.com and Premium Gibson dealers.
Kirk Hammett is one of the most well-known rock guitarists of our time. Since 1983, he has been Metallica’s lead guitarist and a contributing songwriter. He started the metal band Exodus, which he gave its name before joining Metallica. Watch Kirk Hammett’s interview for Gibson TV’s “Icons” series to learn more about his musical influences, the early days of the San Francisco metal scene, and his 37 years as Metallica’s lead guitarist. Metallica is featured in archival and never-before-seen photos in this episode of “Icons,” and Kirk discusses the band’s touring history and personal experiences recording the group’s most important albums, such as “Kill’em All,” “Ride the Lightning,” “Master of Puppets,” “…And Justice For All,” and “The Black Album.”
Kirk Hammett declared that he is very honored and grateful for this opportunity with Gibson. He explained that it means a lot to him to be able to share some of Greeny’s enthusiasm. Knowing that anyone can experience some of that “Greeny” magic is exciting. He hopes you find these models to be just as inspiring as the original!
The Gibson Custom Shop Murphy Lab Aged Kirk Hammett “Greeny” 1959 Les Paul Standard and the Gibson Kirk Hammett “Greeny” Les Paul Standard will both be available on April 11, according to Cesar Gueikian, the brand president of Gibson. Kirk’s collection of Gibson guitars has grown over time, starting with his 1979 Flying V and continuing with a variety of Gibson models. He has been an inspiration to musicians for decades. He has incorporated the Greeny sound into everything he does over the past ten years since becoming the custodian of the band, making it a staple of his Metallica sound on records and on stage worldwide.
The background of “Greeny” is a mystery, but few guitars are as legendary. Greeny has a distinctive sound that is as recognizable as the guitar itself, making it one of the most well-known original Les Paul standards ever produced. It was originally owned by Peter Green, who used it with Fleetwood Mac and later sold it to Gary Moore, who used it with Thin Lizzy and on his own for 30 years. Greeny has been owned by Kirk Hammett and three well-known guitarists. Due to the neck pickup’s reversed magnetic polarity, the out-of-phase middle switch position partially contributes to its distinctive sound.
Inspired by this storied instrument, the Gibson Custom Shop’s Kirk Hammett “Greeny” 1959 Les Paul Standard has been expertly aged to match the original by Murphy Lab. The Custom Shop Greeny gives players all over the world a chance to feel a little of the magic of “Greeny” for themselves thanks to its Indian Rosewood fretboard. The exclusive Lifton reissue 5 latch hardshell case for the Gibson Custom Shop “Greeny” features a brown leather exterior and a pink interior.
The Kirk Hammett “Greeny” Les Paul Standard version, which will be released on April 11, 2023, was inspired by this legendary guitar and gives players all over the world the chance to experience some of the magic of “Greeny” for themselves.
