In his poetry anthology, The World That We Live In, Joshua McKenney provide readers with a welcome chance to stop and reflect by uncoupling themselves from the demands of the day. In just sixteen pages, Joshua highlights his creative flair through every word, and despite being still in his twenties, and dealing with a cerebral palsy diagnosis, there clearly so much going on in this agile and understanding mind.
According to one reader, Joshua McKenney’s poetry ‘makes you think about how we live our lives and whom we are serving’.
The World That We Live In also provides a chance for McKenney to demonstrate his camera skills, he is responsible for the standout front cover image, as he is pursuing a major in photography at Southern New Hampshire University.
Joshua McKenney
Having grown up in Tulsa, Oklahoma, Joshua McKenney is a 2020 Tulsa School of Arts and Sciences graduate, and is now attending Southern New Hampshire University to major in photography.
While attending TSAS, Joshua discovered his passion for photography and, wanting to learn more, he started taking photography courses in Tulsa Community College while still attending high school. He then took a gap year before college to focus on photography and the business he started, Zachariah Photography, taking high school senior portraits and capturing special events.
In 2021, Joshua enrolled in Southern New Hampshire University, where he was accepted and will graduate in 2024.
Having been diagnosed with Cerebral Palsy at a young age, during Joshua’s elementary years and high school years, he was on an IEP because the teachers thought he could not keep up with the other students with the amount of work needed. Despite being teased because of his disability and being on an IEP, Joshua never lost his willingness to learn and excel, learning on his faith and trust in God and not allowing other people to define who he was as a person.
