R&B artist Kiana is known for her moody, soulful, and ethereal soundscapes. She writes songs about how growth is often painful but beautiful, reflecting feelings of heartbreak and sadness, drawing inspiration from her unique upbringing in Persian and Dutch culture.

The subject of her most recent single, “Split Decisions,” is the uncomfortable decision to let go of someone who, despite your best efforts, would be better off without you. Kiana explained that the verses are almost like flashbacks that reminisce over memories and who that person was, and is vulnerable in the reality that when you let go of someone – you do continue to think about everything that you had, what could’ve been, and you learn to understand both yourself and the other person more when the situation is over.

The term “Split Decisions” refers to a decision made based on a majority verdict. Kiana explained that the decision to let go was made while compromising with different sides. Even though some parts of you want to stay, your subconscious and conscious selves are deciding to let go because you know this connection isn’t meant to be. Nothing speaks louder than the combination of a gut feeling and a voice in your head.

“Split Decisions” is a continuation of her music’s raw emotion and vulnerability. The track is feminine yet dominant, soft yet sexy, and most importantly, it is painfully personal. Listening to Kiana’s music is like reading her journal entries because she reveals all of her feelings to the world.
