On The Table Read Magazine, “the best arts and entertainment magazine UK“, Theo Bleak has released her raw, 14-song mixtape Bargaining—a chronological dive into the bargaining stage of grief, heartbreak, and yearning for connection, with the haunting lead single, Megan in New York.
Bargaining
Dundee-based alternative artist Theo Bleak (the musical project of Katie Lynch) has released her deeply personal 14-song mixtape Bargaining, Co-written with longtime collaborator Mark Johnston, the project serves as a raw, chronological document of a transformative year marked by intense grief, particularly the prolonged bargaining stage—grappling with insurmountable change, deep love, and unflinching honesty.

The mixtape draws from heartfelt confessions, reflections on loss, and a yearning for genuine connection. Recorded in the rawest, most vulnerable moments, it captures cathartic pain alongside glimmers of hope. Some tracks even retain the audible creak of the studio chair where Lynch sat to confront her mistakes, choices, and life’s complexities. Inspiration came partly from the journals of her late great-uncle John, dating back to 1966. Though he passed in the early 2000s, Lynch felt an intimate friendship across the veil between living and dead, describing him as her best friend through his passionate writings on cycling and simple yet profound sentiments.

Megan In New York
Leading the release is the single “Megan in New York,” now accompanied by its official music video. The track chronicles a trip to New York City that signaled the beginning of the end for a significant chapter in Lynch’s life. It explores destructive dynamics fueled by unchecked passion, emotion, and connections lacking rational grounding—stemming from personal upheaval in the city, conversations with her companion Megan, and lingering reflections on being frozen in time.
As a mixtape, Bargaining prioritizes immediacy and emotional excavation over polished resolution. It stands as an intimate excavation of grief’s nonlinear nature, where healing emerges unevenly through revisiting memories and old entries.

Previous Releases
This follows Theo Bleak’s earlier 2025 EP Bad Luck Is Two Yellow Flowers, which showcased her signature haunting melodies, poetic lyricism, layered instrumentals, and emotive vocals—balancing intellect with raw feeling. Tracks like “Said Like A Poet” and “Peach Sky” highlighted themes of longing, superstition, blurred friendships, fleeting beauty, change, and the search for meaning, often through her distinctive goth waltz guitar work and lush vocal layers.
Building on prior momentum, her introspective single “You Said I’d Feel It All Again” earned international acclaim last year, featuring on BBC Radio 1’s Future Artists and BBC Radio 2’s Unwinds, as well as Spotify editorial playlists including New Music Friday across the USA, UK, Belgium, Sweden, and Netherlands, plus Fresh Folk, All New Pop, and Next Gen Singer-Songwriters. It also received a spotlight from rising star Rachel Chinouriri during her BBC Introducing takeover on Radio 1.
