On The Table Read Magazine, “the best arts and entertainment magazine UK“, Boston’s seven-piece retro pop/soul sensation Couch finally unleashes their bold, horn-drenched debut album Big Talk—a radiant celebration of queer love, radical honesty, and multidimensional connection.
Big Talk
Boston-based seven-piece retro pop/soul band Couch has released their highly anticipated debut full-length album, Big Talk. The record, out now, marks a major milestone for the independent group, showcasing a bolder, fuller evolution of their signature sound built on rich horns, warm analog textures, and emotionally raw songwriting.
Big Talk dives deep into themes of love in all its forms – romantic, platonic, and self-love – while championing bold honesty over surface-level small talk. The album captures that pivotal life phase where relationships start to click, even amid the messiness, blending moody nostalgia with bright, uplifting energy.

Exploring Femininity, Queerness, and Radical Love on “Middle Man”
The latest single, “Middle Man,” centers on the complexities of queer femininity and love between women. Drawing from personal experience, the song reflects on a situation where pursuing a man revealed deeper feelings for a close female friend instead. It questions traditional romantic structures and imagines more nourishing connections between queer women, free from the “middle man.” The track playfully wrestles with the common queer dilemma: do I want to be her, befriend her, or date her?
From Bedroom Demos to Full-Band Magic
Most of the songs began as voice memos or small writing sessions between two or three members before blossoming through the band’s signature collaborative process. Couch road-tested the new material on major tours supporting Cory Wong in Europe and Lake Street Dive across the U.S., refining the arrangements in front of live audiences.
Earlier singles like the nostalgic high-school crush anthem “Slow Burn,” the impatient and self-reflective “On The Wire” with its bright horns and sticky hooks, and the explosive lead track “What Were You Thinking” – a story of falling hard for an unreliable older figure at age 19 – have already earned praise for their boldness, warmth, and vibrant chemistry.

A Distinct Retro-Soul Sound, Bigger Than Ever
Mastered by Colin Leonard (known for work with Justin Bieber, Beyoncé, and H.E.R.), Big Talk amplifies Couch’s retro-soul/pop palette with electric live energy, masterful instrumentation, and textured horn arrangements. The result is their most expansive and confident statement yet – a swirl of vintage warmth and modern pop immediacy.
National TV Debut and a Massive International Tour
The band recently made their national television debut on CBS Saturday Sessions. They are now preparing for an extensive international headline tour kicked off November 6 in Detroit, with many dates already sold out. The run hits iconic venues across North America, the UK, and Europe, including Roadrunner in Boston, 9:30 Club in Washington DC, The Fonda in Los Angeles, Brooklyn Steel in New York City (with Stephen Day, Night Talks, and Thumber), and KOKO in London. Full tour dates and tickets are available at couchtheband.com/tour.

What started as childhood and high school friendships around Boston has grown into a tight-knit, self-produced, and self-managed unit. After building momentum remotely during 2019–2021, releasing a self-titled debut EP in 2021 and the Sunshower EP in 2023, plus festival slots at Boston Calling and Levitate, Couch now steps fully into the spotlight with Big Talk – a vibrant, honest, and unapologetically real introduction to who they are today.
